Patricia Warrine Stewart CSUF 1967

I am writing this paragraph for Patricia Warrine Stewart, a CSUF nursing graduate in 1967 or 1968. Pat Stewart grew up in Los Angeles. She completed high school when she was only 16 years old. She attended UC Davis to study veterinarian medicine when she met her husband Joe Stewart. They were married and had four children. Pat returned to school in 1962 to obtain her BSN. She graduated class valedictorian in 1967 or 68? Shortly after graduation, she worked at Valley Children’s Hospital in the pediatric units. She later developed a love of critical care and worked in the first open heart unit in Fresno. Several years later, she became a certified pediatric nurse practitioner through a program in Arizona. After completing the six month program, she worked as a pediatric nurse practitioner for Dr. Paul Baker and Dr. Leonard Thompson. Pat was one of two pediatric nurse practitioners in Fresno and pioneered the role. She provided services through University Medical Center as well. Pat was involved in the American Nurses Association, served as Chair for several committees and traveled frequently to Chicago. She was a nurse pioneer and leader in the community. In 1976, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She continued to work full time until a few months before her death on March 7, 1978, She had a great sense of humor and was well-loved by many.
