In Geometry, a rule that is accepted without proof is called a postulate or axiom.

Line segments that have the same length are calledcongruent segments.

Ruler Postulate: The endpoints of a segment can be matched up with numbers on a ruler, so that the length of the segment can be found by subtracting the numbers on the ruler.
