32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Let my prayer come into your presence. Incline your ear to my cry for help, O Lord.

- Psalm 88 (87):3

November is the Month of All Souls.

During this time, we remember those who have gone before us in faith and continue to pray that they might be embraced in the presence of God.

On the altar, we have placed our Books of the Dead, as well as the list of names of parishioners whose funerals or burials we celebrated from 10/1/19--9/30/20.

We prayed for them, those who have died during this pandemic and all of our deceased loved ones during our virtual Mass of Remembrance on All Souls Day, November 2. If you missed the Mass, you can still view it on our parish YouTube channel at a time that is best for you.

Let us keep in our prayers the families and friends who have lost loved ones this past

year and all who mourn.

DID YOU RECEIVE OUR ANNUAL REPORT IN THE MAIL?

All registered parishioners should have received our Annual Report and Offertory Commitment Pledge cards in the mail. If you didn't, we may not have your current address or you may have not officially registered with the parish. The annual report and the opportunity to pledge can, both, be found on our website. You can also register to be a parishioner on our website. If you prefer, you can also pick up the Annual Report envelopes at the receptionist desk!

PASTORAL REFLECTION

Have you ever missed an important event? How could it ever happen? We can all get complacent, lazy or distracted. If not careful, a big event that we have looked forward to can be missed, like the proverbial . . .

Missing the Bus.

In this week's Gospel, Jesus cautions against complacency in our faith by using a familiar Palestinian wedding custom. Bridesmaids would get ready for that magic moment when they greet the Bridegroom returning from the Bride's parents' home and about to bring his bride into his house. It's at that moment the bridesmaids go in with the couple to begin the celebration. The foolish bridesmaids assume the bridegroom will not return at night, but the wise bridesmaids are prepared to meet him, even at night, with oil ready for their lamps. What a waste to get all dressed up and miss the Bridegroom and Bride when they come!

God is generous in the varied ways and times that he comes to share his life with us. Yet, on our part, it requires a desire and readiness to be there for the encounter with him. It can make all the difference in our lives. We don't want to miss it! Sometimes it's only after the fact, looking back on a situation, that I can realize that God was there and good to me that day. At other times, when realizing I really missed the bus today, it can inspire me to be more open the next day. Either way, the Good News is that Christ is always there and ready to meet us.
