“Come Boldly”

Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

I. Exhortation:

*Knowing the privilege and right that the child of God has to the Throne of God. It is a wonder and amazement that exhortation is necessary to entice us to the presence of our King!

“Let” ~ Permit, Allow...

Deuteronomy 3:23-26 And I besought the LORD at that time, saying, 24 O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might? 25 I pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon. 26 But the LORD was wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter.

Moses had sinned, God will now NOT ALLOW Moses access to the Promised Land...

With the Christian it is not so! We have ACCESS FREELY to the fountain of living waters! We can drink deeply and freely! We have access to the throne room upon demand!

“us” ~ “holy brethren...

“partakers of the heavenly calling” (3:1), “brethren” (3:12), “partakers of Christ” (3:14)

“therefore” ~ “consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession” (3:1)

“come” ~ open invitation to approach unto God!

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

“boldly” ~ unrestricted access to God!

Hebrews 9:6-7 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. 7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:

II. Destination:

*We have direct access to the throne of Almighty God! We have His ear! We have His attention! O God! How rarely some take advantage of this!

“unto” ~ direct access

Hebrews 9:6-7 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. 7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:

“the throne” ~ THE seat of all power and authority (God's throne)

Psalms 9:4 For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging right.

Psalms 47:7-8 For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding. 8 God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.

Psalms 89:13-14 Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand. 14 Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.

“of grace” ~ note: the connection – to the throne

the characterizing – of the throne

Exodus 13:21-22 And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: 22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.

Exodus 14:24 And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,

III. Motivation:

*We have not to fear or wonder if our audience will be accepted! We are not as Esther, who took her life into her hands to appear before the king! (Esther 4:18-23) Our God will Hear!!!!!

“that” ~ reason/motive

“we may obtain” ~ this is not an endeavor in vain, but we know that we will OBTAIN!

“mercy” ~ the policy of His dealings with me FOR my sin!

*Mercy is not getting what I DESERVE!

Psalms 103:9-14 He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. 10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. 13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. 14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.

“find” ~ discover

Psalms 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Proverbs 8:17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

Matthew 7:7-8 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

“grace” ~ the quality of His dealings with me in SPITE of my sin!

2 Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

*Grace is getting what I DO NOT DESERVE!

“to help” ~

Psalms 54:4 Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul.

“in time” ~ God is rarely early...

God is NEVER late...

God is always on time!

“of need” ~ need speaks of destitution, lack, and want of something absolutely necessary...

We are such NEEDY people! We are completely dependent upon the supply and sustaining of our God!
