Marriage License InformationHow to Apply:Both parties must visit the Recorder’s office to apply for a marriage license. Both applicants must be at least 18 years old to obtain a marriage license without parental consent.Marriage License RequirementsEffective August 28, 2018 a law was passed to prohibit marriage licenses from being issued if either party is under 16 years of age. Additionally, the legislation bars the marriage of individuals 21 or older to anyone under age 18. Parental consent will still be required for minors to marry someone under age 21.? All marriage license applicants will be required to provide proof of age to the Recorder of Deeds through a certified copy of their birth certificate, passport or other government issued identification.Qualifications Persons between the ages of 16 and 17 may obtain a license with the consent of their custodial parent. A parent must give consent in person at the time of application and must have proper identification.If either applicant is divorced or widowed, applicant(s) will need to provide the month / year the last marriage ended.Marriage License Checklist Fee - $51.00 cash or debit card / a $3.00 convenience fee is added for debit/credit transactionsA valid government issued ID Produce Social Security number. If the applicant does not have a Social Security number, they may sign an affidavit in lieu of Social Security Number. This affidavit is provided by the Recorder’s OfficeWhen to pick up the licenseMarriage licenses are valid for thirty (30) days from the date of issuance and may be used anywhere within the state of Missouri. The license must be returned to our office within 15 days of being used. If for any reason the license is not used, please return the license to the office of the Recorder of Deeds.Affidavit of Absent ApplicationAn Affidavit of Absent Application is to be used to apply for a Marriage License when one party or both parties are unable to appear. This form can only be used if the applicant is Incarcerated, Active Military Duty, or Disabled. ................
