Our Mission – Glorifying God by making disciples

of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES are regularly at 9am and 11am. (On Fifth Sundays we have one combined worship service at 10am.) Our current sermon series is called “Choosing the Sacramental (Simple) Life!” Everything we do over time will become a pattern and/or practice. These patterns and practices are always happening even when we don’t recognize or acknowledge them. The goal of a sacramental/simple life is to be in communion with God and in community with one another. How do we reclaim the sacramental/simple life? We are invited by God every day to choose the sacramental/simple life that is within reach of all God’s people. Join us each Sunday as we learn more about making these choices.

BAPTISMS If you are interested in being baptized, please contact Ruth in the church office at 615-271-2600 or mckendreeinfo@.

REFRESH! is our mid-week gathering. We meet in the first floor chapel each Wednesday, 12:00-12:30pm. This short time of worship includes prayers, hymns, a message and Holy Communion. Everyone is invited to attend.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT Our Adult Bible Study and Chancel Choir are taking their summer break during the month of July. We invite you to join us for both activities on Wednesday, August 3.

THE ENCOUNTER@EDGEHILL is a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-generational, and multi-class movement and extension ministry of McKendree for the purpose of building bridges of hope through the love of Jesus Christ. It is the first of several locations planned for Nashville neighborhoods including Metro Center (August) and 12 South and Music Row. The Encounter seeks to extend McKendree’s mission of making disciples of Christ for the transformation of the world by engaging in:

• Vital conversations about gospel and reconciliation

• Compassionate relationships with all people, and

• Life giving action that moves us beyond our comfort and complacency into the mission field of Nashville neighborhoods and beyond where God is calling us and waiting for us.

While there may be some elements of worship at a typical Encounter, the focus of each gathering is face to face conversations around tables. In these risky, vulnerable small group conversations around tables we seek to confront issues of privilege, racism, and classism that divide, to hear the call to God’s beloved community and then be invited to transformative engagement in the communities of Nashville. The Encounter@Edgehill meets at 6PM the first Sunday of each month at the Edgehill Café, 1201 Villa Place, Nashville, TN. Contact Rev. Stephen Handy (mckendreestephen@) or Rick Quinn (mckendreerick@) for more details.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Our McKendree Vacation Bible School will on Saturday, July 23, 8:30-3:30. VBS is for age 3-10. Lunch will be included, and also a free play and rest time for the Preschoolers. The theme this year is “Pets Unleashed! Jesus Cares Fur You.” We need volunteers! We need actors, dance leaders, meal servers and cleanup, recreation leaders, people to decorate and folks to help set up and take down, help with registration table, crew leaders (responsible for guiding groups of 5-10 children through various stations during the day), station leaders (responsible for running a station—craft, activity, etc.) We’ll need help mostly on Saturday, but also on Friday and Sunday. Please contact Carly Abel for details (mckendreecarly@).

OPPORTUNITIES FOR SERVICE!

CHRISTMAS IN JULY, July 31 We will be celebrating our biggest CHRISTMAS IN JULY yet. The Evangelism/Mission/Social Justice Ministry Team and the Worship Ministry Team are joining together for this celebration. We are again requesting spiral notebooks and pencils for our Pencil Partner School, Rose Park Middle School.

WORSHIP WITHOUT WALLS! On Sunday, July 31st, we will have a Worship Without Walls experience. We will come together for a short worship service, then we will serve God by helping others. There will be some work projects here at the church, and several others in the community. All projects are designed to be no more than two hours long. Children and adults can participate! Projects include Bethlehem Center (mopping gym floor, painting), John Early Middle School (putting out fresh mulch on the grounds), Alive Hospice (children singing for the residents), Christian Life Center Rooftop Garden (weeding the planters). Other sites and projects will be determined soon. Sign-up sheets will be on the tables at the front and back of the church on Sunday, or you may contact Ruth at the church office for more details (mckendreeinfo@).

GIVE A GIFT OF HOPE Meet Faith, the Cow! “Faith” will be at the church to remind you to bring your gift, so that she can be a “Gift of Hope” for a family. You can help her get to the right family through your donation to our Mission Project. Our Evangelism/Mission/Social Justice Team has a mission focus with Heifer Project International. Our goal is to raise $500 to purchase a cow for an impoverished community. Heifer Project International gives a cow to a family in a community or village. The milk produced is enough for the family themselves and their neighbors, with some left to sell. The income is used for school fees, medicine, clothing, and home improvement. A healthy cow can produce a calf every year, which is passed on to another family in the community and eventually the entire community moves from poverty to self-reliance. You can give your donation on Sundays or by using our website ().

Week 3, July 10-16 Give $1 for every milk product or substitute milk product in your house (remember the cheese, butter, and yogurt also!)
