Art

This term the children will be exploring tone, contrast and colour-blending – using collage and paint to create wartime images linked to the Blitz.

History

This term children will be investigating the effects WW2 had on Britain and their local area. The unit is titled, ‘How did World War Two impact our local area?’

Children will be learning what life in Britain was like during WW2 -including what it was like to be evacuated, why it was called a World War, the countries who were involved in the war and what happened to them and the impact that the military had on our local area.

Science

Children will be learning:

• The human body and its systems;

• The effects exercise has on the heart;

• The effects diet, drugs and lifestyle have on the human body;

• How to make a working circuit, what happens to energy as it flows around a circuit and how to change the amount of energy;

• What electrical resistance is.

Music

Charanga Unit: I’ll be there. During this unit the children will listen to, appr listen to, appraise and perform the song I’ll Be There and other songs sung by Michael Jackson.

Year 6

Spring Term

RE

The children will learn about the Bible’s Easter story and how this festival is celebrated around the world.

They will also explore the Hindu faith and its importance within the community.

RRSA

The rights of the child- articles which will be covered within lessons this term are:

Computing

Children will explore how to measure and record sound, light and temperature using ICT. They will also learn how to stay safe online.

Technology

This term the children will be creating and controlling outputs – using renewable energy sources. This unit will be closely linked with our Science topics – Electricity and light where children will design and create fully working (renewable) light circuits.

Geography

This term children will be exploring what things might be happening or changing in our local area in the future and thinking about how the world might change. The unit is titled, ‘How will our world look in the future?’

Children will be learning how and why local housing needs to change, the importance of community spirit and how it can affect everyone within the area as well as the need for people to look after and support public services and facilities and how these may change.

RSE

The children will discuss setting ‘Goals’ or ‘Targets’ and what they can do to ensure these are met.

Languages:

Children will be talking and writing about the planets and environment in French.

PE

Tennis coaching.
