In the future we are able to work at the cellular level

In the future we are able to work at the cellular level. (Think Ms. Frizzle and the magic school bus)!

You are a cellular biologist from the future; your job is to redesign the basic unit of life, a cell. Create a cell that will be the new fundamental building block for life. You will be creating a cell from the very beginning. Forget everything you know and create something original; your design for a new & better cell. I am not asking you to do research on cells that already exist, I am asking you to innovate a NEW cell. It can be based on truth or incredibly fiction. There is no wrong answer as long as you are answering the questions and working hard. BE CREATIVE, YOU CAN DO THIS,THE WORLD IS COUNTING ON YOU!!!

In order to create a cell you must keep in mind a few things, Answer the following questions in order to help you organize your thoughts.

1. What is the cell’s primary function? (What is it’s job?)

2. How does the cell complete its job? ( What does it do?)

3. Does this cell work with other cells? (If so, how. If not, why not?)

4. What are the parts of the inside of your cell?

5. What runs the cell and tells it what to do?

6. Where is energy to power the cell created. ( And how is it created?)

7. Where is energy stored?

8. What does the cell live off of, (what does it eat to survive)?

9. How do the cells reproduce?

10. Where does reproduction begin?

11. What keeps the cell from collapsing?

12. Does the cell have a definitive shape? (What does it look like; does it look like that all of the time?)

13. How do the cells communicate with each other?

14. How does the cell ward off predators?

15. Is your cell a predator? If so, what does it make its prey?

Using your answers from above, write a STORY that summarizes where your new cell came from, how it was designed, how it functions and how it will be better than any previous cell in history!
