Circle Graphic Organizer Instructions

1. Use a paper plate as a template to draw a circle on paper. It will not fit completely. That is ok.

2. Cut out the circle and fold it until you have 8 equal sections.

3. In the center of the circle, write the statement, “Characteristics of Living Things”

4. Draw lines on your folds so each section is separated.

5. The sections of your wheel should include the following information (in no particular order).

• Section 1- Write the statement: Made up of cells.

Define cell and explain the difference between unicellular and multicellular.

• Section 2- Write the statement: Reproduce

Define sexual reproduction and asexual reproduction

• Section 3- Write the statement: Based on a universal genetic code

Define DNA

• Section 4- Write the statement: Grow and develop.

Give an example of an organism that develops and changes dramatically throughout its life.

• Section 5- Write the statement: Obtain and use materials and energy.

Define metabolism.

• Section 6- Write the statement: Respond to their environment.

Give one example of how an organism responds to its environment.

• Section 7- Write the statement: Maintain a stable internal environment.

Define homeostasis and give one example of homeostasis.

• Section 8- Write the statement: As a group, living things evolve

Define evolve.
