Class Objectives

The Bioscience course is designed for students to develop an understanding of fundamental principles of Biology. Bioscience is a course that will prepare students for the state mandated test. Bioscience satisfies a graduation requirement. The concepts taught in Bioscience will emphasize the relationships between science and the students’ lives. The subject matter taught in Bioscience will be aligned with the benchmarks for Bioscience set forth by the State of Michigan.

Course Outline

Topics: The specific topics covered in term 2 are based upon the objectives written in the State of Michigan science curriculum. The topics for term 2 are listed below:

These topics will be covered in chapters 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 22, and 23 in the Life Science textbook.

Materials: Students will be expected to bring the following materials to every class:

• Notebook Paper

• Three-ring Binder

• Textbook

• Pencil or Pen

• Colored Pencils ( Highly Recommended)

Grading: Students will be graded on the following items: vocabulary notecards, notes taken in class, worksheets and class assignments, chapter quizzes, lab participation, lab notes, and unit tests. In addition, the final exam will count as 20% of the overall grade (BHS policy).

Students will have one lab grade dropped to account for an absence on lab days. The grading scale below is Bedford High School’s scale:

A 100% to 90%

B 89% to 80%

C 79% to 70%

D 69% to 60%

F 59% to 0%

Class Rules:

1) Students are expected to follow all classroom rules and common expectations as stated in the BHS handbook.

2) Students are expected to bring all materials to class daily and be ready to begin when the bell rings.

3) Students are expected to listen carefully to directions and follow them the first time they are given.

4) Students are expected to follow all safety guidelines given for lab activities. Failure to follow safety procedures will result in removal from class and a score of zero for that lab activity.

5) Students will not be allowed to have food or drink the classroom at any time.

6) Students are expected to respect the teacher and fellow classmates at all times. This means respecting the speaker, using appropriate language and body language at all times.

7) Late work will be counted for 50% the day after it was due. It will not be accepted after that.

8) Make-up tests and quizzes will be after school in the media center or during homeroom. All tests are REQUIRED and must be made up by the day before the exam. Exam grade will be withheld until all tests are made up.

9) End of the term project is REQUIRED and exam grades will be withheld until the project is turned in.
