Day 7
This week’s theme: “What’s Your Name?”
This week’s power verse: “But I will call on God, and the Lord will rescue me.” - Psalm 55:16
King Nebuchadnezzar changed Daniel’s, Hananiah’s, Mishael’s and Azariah’s names to: Belteshazzar, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Those names mean: Satan is my protector, servant of sin, shadow of the prince and servant of Nebo (a false god). The enemy king changed the names of the 4 young men that trusted God into names that meant just the opposite. But you know, those new names were not who those 4 young men were. They were God followers, no matter what any body said or what any body called them! Has anybody ever called you a not so nice name? Well, don’t you believe what they called you! You are a child of God, no matter what name anybody calls you! Just ask Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah!
Activity: Opposites. Draw a line to each opposite.

Prayer Idea for Today: Dear Jesus, I want to be the opposite of running away from you. I want to be one that runs TO you! You’ve changed me from sinner to a follower of You. That’s the kind of change we can believe in! Amen!
Operation:
Enduring Courage
Devotional
Week 1
Written by Pastor Linda Schreck
Day 1
This week’s theme: “What’s Your Name?”
Bible? Check!
God’s presence? Check!
Devotional? Check!
Get ready! It is now time to begin the OPERATION! Don’t panic! Not an operation operation, but an operation! We won’t be going to the hospital and having the doctor do surgery, but we ARE going to be in the operating room – the operating room of your heart, that is! And we will be on a mission: a mission of developing enduring courage! When someone goes into battle, they call that an “operation”. So, we will be doing battle over the next 6 weeks – a battle against the enemy of our soul who wants to defeat us and get us away from God! Daniel in the Bible had the same battle – and THAT is who we will be learning about the next 6 weeks in OPERATION ENDURING COURAGE. Let the operation begin!
Prayer Idea for Today: Dear Jesus, Operations are sometimes necessary. And, God, I need to be part of this operation – the operation for more courage! So, go ahead God – let’s begin the procedure – and I’ll be looking forward to a GREAT result: courage! AMEN!
Day 6
This week’s theme: “What’s Your Name?”
This week’s power verse: “But I will call on God, and the Lord will rescue me.” - Psalm 55:16
If we combine all 4 names that we have looked at this week, we get: HANANIAHMISHAELAZARIAHDANIEL! That is way more SUPER than Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! In other words, all 4 names put together means: God has been gracious, who is like God, God has helped, God is our judge! Those are some powerful, encouraging names and words! If we could just remember the meanings of these 4 names: Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah and Daniel, we would remembering some great truths about our God! So, next time you have a problem, or someone asks you your name, remember: HANANIAHMISHAELAZARIAHDANIEL! Or God has been gracious, who is like God, God has helped, God is our judge!
Activity: How many words can you find in these names?
HANANIAHMISHAELAZARIAHDANIEL
Prayer Idea for Today: Dear Jesus, I pray that I will always remember that you are gracious, that no one is like You, that you help and that you judge. Names have meanings, God, and I pray that when people see my name, they will not just see what it means, but they will be reminded that I live for the One whose Name is above all names – Jesus! Your name is salvation! AMEN!
Day 5
This week’s theme: “What’s Your Name?”
This week’s power verse: “But I will call on God, and the Lord will rescue me.” - Psalm 55:16
We’ve looked at Daniel’s 3 friend’s names, now let’s look at Daniel’s name. The name Daniel means “God is my judge.” The Bible tells us that God judges our hearts and our thoughts. When we stand before God one day in Heaven, God will be our judge. He will look at us and if He sees a life that said “YES” to Him and lived for Him, then we will spend eternity in Heaven with Him and all the other YES sayers! But if we have said “NO” to God and God’s ways, well, we won’t be spending eternity in Heaven – but in hell, separated from God forever. Daniel had choices to make all through his life. We read about some of the choices he had to make in the book of Daniel. And each time he had to make a choice, I think Daniel remembered what his name meant: “God is my judge” and then made his choice. Knowing that God sees everything and judges everything, making choices that are godly choices should be our choice! So, remember, God is our judge – choose God and his ways, no matter what!
Activity: Circle all the words of things that a judge in a courtroom has in the courtroom:
|Swimming pool |People |Robe |Officer |
|Pen |Polar bear |Rain forest |Witnesses |
Prayer Idea for Today: Dear Jesus, Thank you for salvation. Thank you that I don’t have to go to hell one day, but that because of Jesus in my life, I can stand before You in Heaven one day and live with you for ever in Heaven! AMEN!
Day 2
This week’s theme: “What’s Your Name?”
This week’s power verse: “But I will call on God, and the Lord will rescue me.” - Psalm 55:16
What is one of the first things that you say to someone when you meet them for the first time? “Hi, my name is__________.” Well, you don’t say, “Hi, my name is BLANK” – you say what your name is, unless your name IS “Blank.” Let’s look at the names of Daniel and his 3 friends listed in Daniel 1. Today we will look at Hananiah. Hananiah means “Yahweh [God] has been gracious.” That’s a great name! God IS gracious to each one of us. Even when it looks like things are not going so great, God is always gracious. He gives us peace, help, and strength. He provides for us in ways that only He can do! Psalm 103:8 tells us that God is gracious and full of love and doesn’t get angry too fast. Everytime Hananiah was asked, “Hey, what’s your name?” Hananiah could answer, “God has been gracious.” That’s a great reminder to all of us: GOD IS GRACIOUS!
Activity: Get a stop watch or timer – or someone that will keep track of the time for you. For the next 30 seconds, count how many names you can say – and start with Hananiah! Ready, set…GO!
Prayer Idea for Today: Dear Jesus, Of all the names I know, Your name is the most wonderful. Thank you that at your name one day, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that you are Lord. Jesus, I do that right now! YOU ARE MY LORD! AMEN!
Day 3
This week’s theme: “What’s Your Name?”
This week’s power verse: “But I will call on God, and the Lord will rescue me.” - Psalm 55:16
Another friend of Daniel’s in Daniel chapter 1 is named Mishael. The name Mishael means “who is like God!” WOW – that name sure tells everybody that God is God all by Himself and no one is like our God! Talk about a great reminder! No one is our powerful, as mighty, as loving, as wonderful, as awesome, as incredible, as…well…you get the idea! No one is like our God!!! And the whole book of Daniel tells us that fact! No matter how great a basketball player someone is, they are not like God! No matter how great a speller someone is, they are not like God! No matter how sweet someone is, they are not like God! No one – not Moses, not Abraham, not Noah, not Peter, not Paul, not Daniel, not Mishael – no one is like our God! So, when someone asked Mishael “What’s your name?” he could look them straight in the eyes and say, “Who is like God!”
Activity: A synonym is a word that means the same thing as another word. Like “tall” and “long”. There is no synonym for our God – no one is like our God (just ask Mishael). Can you think of a synonym for each of these words?
- happy - large - wise
- hungry - incredible - sing
Prayer Idea for Today: Dear Jesus, Who is like our God? Nobody! No-no-no-no-NO-BODY!! I love you, God. Yes-yes-yes-yes-YES-INDEEDY! AMEN!
Day 4
This week’s theme: “What’s Your Name?”
This week’s power verse: “But I will call on God, and the Lord will rescue me.” - Psalm 55:16
Daniel had another friend with him in Daniel chapter 1. So far, we know Hananiah (Yahweh [God] has been gracious) and Mishael (who is like God). The third friend’s name was Azariah. Any idea what that name means? Me neither. I had to look in up in a Bible dictionary – did you know they make Bible dictionaries? The name Azariah means “Yahweh [God] has helped.” Another super name!!! And Azariah’s name sure is the truth! God HAS helped at every second of every day of every year since God created Adam and Eve! God never gets tired of helping – He even sent the helper, the Holy Spirit, to give us all the help we need – and trust me, that is a LOT of help!! Azariah was certainly going to find out soon just how much help God was going to give him, Hananiah, Mishael and Daniel! I could sure use all the help God can give me – maybe I should change my name to Azariah? What do you think?
Activity: Help get the right letters into the right names:
H__n__n__i__h
__i__h__e__
A__ __ r i__ __
Letters to choose from: x m a t s a p a a q l z a a h a z
Prayer Idea for Today: Dear Jesus, No matter how you spell it, you are my helper! Thanks for being able to help me with anything (even spelling)! I need your help everyday, God! AMEN!
