HEB and Fiesta Team with CASI

for Terlingua Championship Chili Mix

The CASI Championship Chili Mix branding project between CASI, HEB, and Bolner's Fiesta Products has been finalized and the CASI trademarked, branded product will be on the HEB shelves beginning September 18. Also, approximately the second week in November, the HEB website will allow the CASI Chili Mix to be purchased and shipped nationwide.

The HEB internal chefs took a championship recipe and tweaked it to match the general public needs for a home version recipe. Correspondingly, the HEB house marketing team developed the packaging design, incorporating the feel of Terlingua and the CASI licensed logo. HEB is planning some strong promotional offers along with ad support during the fall season.

A special thanks to Bill Tate, Business

Development Manager, HEB Grocery Procurement and Merchandising, and his team, and Michael Bolner, Bolner's Fiesta

Products, and his team for producing a quality and exciting branded product.

Also, thanks to the CASI Licensing

Committee, Ted Fichtl and Richard Knight, for their work with HEB and Bolner's and getting the project completed. CASI is

excited about the future of these partnerships and the opportunity for the iconic CASI logo to be visible in the retail marketplace.

This is a wonderful opportunity for CASI to realize some important revenue. The more that's sold the more CASI makes; so, everyone's support is needed. To make the CASI product a success, CASI is asking its members to spread the news by introducing the CASI branded Chili Mix to their friends and neighbors. Buy or order often and purchase in large quantities. The CASI product would make a great surprise gift or goodie bag item. Thank you for your support. Chili, Charity, and Fun!

ED's Message Happy September, everyone! The kids are back in school, the cooler weather is supposed to be right around the corner, and it's time for the Great Peppers' Meeting in Virginia. Soon after you read this, the Board, GPs, voting delegates and spectators will be in Tyson's Corner, Virginia, dealing with the business side of CASI for two days. If you have never attended a Great Peppers' meeting, I urge you to take the time and go at least once. It will truly be an experience you won't soon forget.

As we are ending the 2016-2017 chili year, we have had some ups and downs following the 50th anniversary. But like we always do, we shall overcome and succeed. In the coming year, there is something that I would like everyone to think about: Cookin' for CASI cookoffs. Cookin' for CASI is a great way to provide additional support to CASI and compete for those last few points. Holding a Cookin' for CASI CCO does not count in your state cookoff totals. The funds from Cookin' for CASI are mainly used for TICC, so that when the Board sits down in January and July to look at the budgets for the upcoming year, we are able to speculate a bit more accurately when it comes down to the amounts we need. Our goal is always to be as frugal and responsible as we can, but still provide the necessary items that CASI needs to operate. I can tell you from experience, setting the budgets for TICC is a crap shoot. What we need and what we must have always depends a great deal on the weather. The economy plays a large part. Gas prices have a role to play. Employment rates figure in this as well. We never know from one year to the next just exactly what we are going to have to have. So, we rely on past events and what we budgeted and what we used, then speculate on what we think we will need this year. The funds generated from Cookin' for CASI events mainly benefit the operating budgets for the upcoming TICC every year. The more that is raised, the easier it gets to deciding what is a necessity at TICC and what we can trim back on or cut completely for that year. With rising costs in every aspect of what we do, we have to be creative in ways to bring in the funding to continue to provide the services that we all expect from year to year at TICC. Cookin' for CASI cookoffs help provide some necessary funding. So when your Pod is looking for a new cookoff in the upcoming year, please consider holding a Cookin' for CASI event. Everyone truly benefits from these events. Good luck to everyone looking for those ever-elusive points, and travel safely!
