March/April 2018

March Came Like a Lion

February was a busy month for us, and in March our club’s active pace continued. Now April is now upon us, and we aren’t slowing down yet.

Our Night at the Races fundraiser was a great success and a lot of fun. We had several first-time attendees, and I hope we will see them again next year. I want to thank Lion Tom Hayford for coordinating this year’s Race Night. He did a fantastic job managing the details and making sure everything came together. And thank you to all our club members for your hard work. It’s because of you that the evening was so successful.

Stephen Thomas, Executive Director of the Salvation Army, was our guest speaker in February. He shared some great information about the Salvation Army’s services in our community, their efforts across the state, and future growth plans. At the end of his program, we presented Stephen with a donation for the Salvation Army from our club. We are excited to have Stephen in Lewisville, and we are looking for ways to further develop the partnership between our club and Salvation Army.

On April 24th our guest speaker will be Brooke Moore, Development Director for CASA. I encourage you to invite a guest or two to join us that evening to learn more about the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Denton County.

After a few cancellations due to weather in February, we finally got Fox Creek cleaned! A big “Thank You” to the Lions and student volunteers who came out to pull trash and debris from the creek and surrounding area.

Our 2018/19 officer board has been finalized and approved. Officer elections were held on April 10th. Please join me in congratulating the new / returning officers and chairs for the Lewisville Lions: PDG Tom, Lion Karri, Lion David, Lion Barb, Lion Jane, Lion Carl, and Lion Stacie.

More opportunities to serve are coming, including ERC visits, monthly vision screening at the library, 2-E2 District Convention on April 27/28, and an LISD vision screening in August. Participate as you are able and inclined.

Well, We Finally got Fox Creek Cleaned!

After a month’s delay on Saturday, March 17th, from 9 a.m. to noon, a total of 33 students from Lewisville High School and LHS-Harmon, community members and LIONS gathered for the Spring Clean-Up of Fox Creek. We collected 55 bags of trash plus lots for other things. Planning has begun to return to the creek in the October time frame.
