Zone I Report for Fall Conference 2020Submitted by Lion Dan VisoneOur First Zone meeting was held on 8/19/2020 and we discussed the following:International President GoalsDistrict Governor GoalsZone Chair GoalsThings that you should be working onResourcesCalendarSWOT analysis and discussion The SWOT Analysis for each club follows, with many common themes across the weaknesses – most importantly how COVID-19 is disrupting many/most activities. My challenge to the four clubs was to put action plans in place to start working the weaknesses and opportunities. All four clubs have started trying hybrid meetings to some level of success. We are currently down 5 members in our Zone, with each club working to address membership during the pandemic. Great info below in the SWOT analysis AND in the “club answers where they could use help” that I hope the rest of the District can not only use, but help shape the 4 NAMI teams. Themes include Growing Membership, Succession Planning/having members step up for leadership positions, dealing with Pandemic. Also, even with the pandemic, great stories below on what the 4 clubs are still doing. The next Zone meeting will be 11/4/2020, where we will address the SWOT analysis efforts and have the NAMI District Chair do a presentation.I asked 4 questions to each club in Prep for this report:1. What have you put in place since the SWOT analysis to address the Weaknesses/Opportunities/Threats :) 2. Good news stories from your club3. Any areas where you could use help. Here are the responses:Stafford Lions Club: 1. What have you put in place since the SWOT analysis to address the Weaknesses/Opportunities/Threats :) a. We have a membership plan which includes history and club facts along with member applications. Our members continue to tout the great work of the Lions which has resulted in two new members. b. Encourage members to continue education to prepare for leadership positions although we are still challenged with low interest in that area.2. Good news stories from your cluba. Our club has been having hybrid meetings and included a virtual presentation for Estate Planning. November's presentation will be a repeat of the Six Pillars of Brain Health.b. Members are serving in the following ways:- Mobile Food Pantry sites- food distribution at the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank- sewing masks- collecting empty pill bottles for redistribution- began vision and hearing screenings - recycling e-wastec. Convincing members to take on leadership positionsGreater Falls Run Lions Club:Address SWOT Analysis Membership was one of our weakness and opportunities on our analysis. GFRLC conducted a membership drive on Fredericksburg Community Day on September 7 at the Farmers Market. We had a lot of people stop by our table and 6 seemed very interested. Our goal is to recruit 10% new members to our current membership. Good News Stories Lion Christine Frescas has accepted a position on the Sight and Hearing serving as a Board Member.White House Ornaments Fundraiser – The GFRLC sold 280 White House ornaments, with a profit to the club of $1,358.Holiday Baskets – The Club has coordinated with five school counselors to provide Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to unfortunate meals. To date we expect to feed 20 families for each of the holidays. We have discussed presents for the children during Christmas. Last year we provided presents to 50 children and expect to do the same this year.Budget 2020 – 2021The GFRLC revisited our 2020 – 2021 budget recently and adjusted it to reflect an increase of dollars in Hunger Relief Programs. We have allocated to pay out $17,000 to Hunger Relief Programs by the end of this calendar year. Our treasurer is currently writing checks to Stafford Emergency Relief though Volunteer Efforts (S.E.R.V.E), Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank, Stafford Junction and several other organizations. Aquia Evening Lions:Aquia Evening Lions has met through Zoom Board meetings every month since February. We just had our first club meeting on September 24, and a joyful time was had by all. It was difficult not to give and get hugs after not seeing each other for months, but everyone remained COVID safe. We all wore masks and brought our own chairs to stay six feet apart.October 24, we will be having our membership meeting at the Aquia Harbour Clubhouse. The meeting will be a morning bunch outside with COVID safety guidelines. Members of Aquia Evening Lions have always had a special feeling for and a great friendship with George White and his Staff at the Clubhouse Restaurant in Aquia Harbour. We have our monthly dinner meetings there as well as many of our events. George is always willing to work with us to make our ideas a reality. On October 3, the Clubhouse hosted, “An Evening Under the Stars” an elegant dinner with dancing. George and his crew donated a portion of the proceeds to our club. These generous people know that AEL hasn’t been able to fundraise at all this year, and they chose to help us with their donation. The Aquia Evening Lions sincerely grateful to George, Teresa, D’Shaun, and each and every one of the Crew. Christmas is just around the corner, and AEL is happy to help all start decorating! Please visit our website at or call Sheryl at 540-659-3451 to order beautiful poinsettias that will be ready for pick-up or delivery on December 1 and 2. There are 4” at $4, 6” at $9, 8” at $18.
