Amphetamine / Methamphetamine: These drugs are CNS Stimulants, which improves a person's alertness, attention, energy and reduces hunger. Methamphetamine is metabolized into amphetamine. Both drugs are highly addictive. An overdose of amphetamines or methamphetamines can cause brain damage producing strokes and convulsions, which can lead to death. In general, there may be tremor, loss of coordination, irritability, delirium, anxiousness, panic, paranoia, insomnia. (Ref: drugpages - 4/8/04)

Ecstasy: Can induce feelings of warmth and openness, greatly enhance the sense of touch and increase the desire for sex. Effects can last up to 24 hours. Side effects can last for several weeks. Reportedly, the urine might have a pink color one week and a festive green color the next. Side effects are similar to amphetamines and include hallucinations, paranoia, fainting, sweating, restlessness, depression, blurred eyesight, chills, and confusion. (Ref: drugpages - 4/8/04)

Ecstasy is linked to long-term damage to those parts of the brain critical to thought memory and pleasure. (NIDA, Facts About MDMA, 2000) Risks also include possible liver damage with extended use. Some recent studies on ecstasy indicate that female serotonin levels can be permanently affected after only 50 doses of the drug. In 2002, the state of Illinois included Ecstasy into its list of abused drugs. Possession can be a Class X felony with a minimum sentence of 6 - 30 years.
