NOTICE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC ON THE INTRODUCTION OF ELECTRONIC MONITORING OF PAYMENTS INTO COLLECTING BANKS IN RESPECT OF INTERNALLY GENERATED REVENUE

As part of efforts to enhance revenue collection and improve accountability and service delivery to the general public the government of Akwa Ibom State has introduced on-line real-time electronic monitoring of all Internally Generated Revenue collections paid into Banks.

The revenue items covered by the electronic monitoring arrangement as contained in this publication are payments for

• Taxes, levies and charges payable to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS);

• Land based charges and other services rendered by the Ministry of Land and Housing;

• Services rendered by the Ministry of Education;

• Services rendered by the Land Use and Allocation Committee;

• Services rendered by the Bureau of Co-operative Affairs;

• Services rendered by the Governor’s office;

• Services rendered by the Office of the Auditor General (State and Local);

• Services rendered by the Judiciary;

• Services rendered by the Bureau of Establishment and Training;

• Services rendered by the Agency for Adult and Non-Formal Education;

• Services rendered by the Local Government Service Commission;

• Services rendered by the State House of Assembly;

• Services rendered by the Uyo Capital Development Authority.

• Services rendered by the Office of the Surveyor General; and

• Services rendered by ALL other State Government ministries not specifically mentioned in this publication.

The list of the approved Bank Accounts is also available at all government offices, tax offices and the Akwa-Ibom Internal Revenue Service website ().

2. Revenue Payers are expected to indicate on their tellers the type of revenue for which they are paying and are advised to seek the assistance of the Bank Teller if in doubt. A codified list of all revenue types has been made available to the Banks for reference purposes. Further details are available at

3. Revenue Payers are expected to collect their payment teller together with an electronic payment slip as evidence of payment.

4. The payer will subsequently approach the appropriate ministry or agency for which the payment is meant with a copy of the bank teller and the electronic payment slip (issued at the bank) to collect the official government revenue receipt for the payment once it clears into the government account.

5. PAYE Tax Agents and organizations operating in the State will be required to submit the list of staff (containing name, monthly gross salary and tax deducted for each) or contractors (containing name, address, amount paid and tax deducted for each) from which the respective PAYE or withholding taxes being remitted are deducted before the government revenue receipt for the remittances are issued. The format of the lists is available at the IRS offices all over the State and also online at

PAYE Tax Agents and individual personal income tax payers can access their payment records by logging on to once they have completed the appropriate online registration with the Internal Revenue Service. They will be issued with a Taxpayer Identification Number (in the case of individual taxpayers whether self employed or employees) and Tax Agent Identification Number (in respect of PAYE Tax Agents).

The Government of Akwa Ibom State hereby seeks the cooperation and understanding of the General Public particularly the revenue payers to fulfill their civic obligations to the State promptly and correctly in accordance with the law. The Government intends to enforce the collection of all revenue due to it using all available legal means.
