Introduction to-

Peter Bunde’s Brigade Plates.

I was introduced to these plates by a friend and customer a couple of years ago. Each plate is an in-depth look at a single regiment from the Napoleonic era. Most of the plates deal with subject matter from the German States, presenting information which is often difficult to find. At the time their coverage of the Prussian army was limited but I was struck by the clarity of the graphics and the excellent way in which the information was presented. Peter has continued to add plates, including many new ones on Prussian subjects. The text accompanying the plates was initially in German, but Peter has recently started releasing the plates with English translations making them a superb source of information. Peter has the advantage of being German so he is able to access rare primary source material and to understand the language it is written in. His research is second to none. I have checked the information in the plates as I was sculpting the Hussars and have found it to be flawless. On the very rare occasion I have disagreed with any of the information in one of his plates, I have found his conclusion to be as valid as the one I have reached, just a different interpretation of the facts available. Each plate is an in-depth look at a single regiment, giving illustrations in both parade and campaign uniform and showing officers, men, musicians and other key personnel as well as items of equipment and the colours carried where relevant. The text gives you all the background you need as well as information concerning similar regiments, the sources used in compiling the plate are also credited which adds validity to the material displayed. I can certainly recommend no better guide for collectors and painters alike.

There are presently three plates available for the Hussars: two covering line regiments – The 1st Silesian Hussars and the Brandenberg Hussars; the third dealing with the Leib Hussars (both regiments covered by the same plate). Each plate also shows the uniforms worn by the Volunteer Jaegers attached to each regiment. Peter has been working on plates for the 2nd Silesians and the Pommeranian Hussars. I have copies of the initial proofs and they are up to the usual standard. The translations for the text are being worked on at the moment and these two new plates should be available soon.

I have stocks of each of the three Hussar plates as well as some copies of the plate illustrating the Prussian Line Uhlans. The plates are £5.50 each with the English text. I do not have stocks of the rest of Peter’s plates at present but can acquire them (with the new English translations) within the week. If sales are promising, I will hold stocks of the rest of the plates in future but, for the moment, I am attaching a list of the plates available. I will let you know as soon as the other Hussar plates are released.
