Sunset Mall Teen Board Scholarship

Sunset Mall is organizing a board with representatives from the Concho Valley’s teen community. This board will become ambassadors for their mall that will help develop it by way of assisting in mall events, marketing, PR, and to communicate to the management a general idea of what teens want to see happening in their mall.

The board will be made up of 10 high school students in their Junior or Senior year from around the Concho Valley. Each member who completes his or her one year term with the required tasks completed will receive a $500 scholarship for the school of their choice.

Coca-Cola Scholarship

Each year Coca-Cola awards 50 scholarships of $20,000 and 200 scholarships of $10,000.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Applicants must be a current high school senior attending school (or home-schooled) in the United States

• U.S. Citizen; U.S. National; U.S. Permanent Resident;

• Temporary Resident (legalization program);

• Refugee; Asylee;

• Cuban-Haitian Entrant;

• Or Humanitarian Parolee

Applicant must be anticipating completion of high school degree during the academic year in which application is made; carry a minimum 3.00 GPA at the end of his/her junior year in high school, and must be planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution.

Applicants may NOT be children or grandchildren of employees, officers, or owners of Coca-Cola bottling companies.

Prudential Spirit of Community Award

The Prudential Spirit of Community Award recognizes students in middle and high school grades who have demonstrated exemplary community service.

Application can be completed online at spirit or prudential. Once you have completed your online application, print it out, sign it, and have a parent sign it.

Submit your printed application to the CHS Counseling Center no later than October 31, 2007.

TCU Texas Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Awards

Scholarships fro high school entrepreneurs:

• One $5000 scholarship

• Five $1000 Scholarships

• Scholarship is doubled if the student attends TCU

TACA/NRMCA 2007 HS Essay Contest

Contest is open to Texas HS students who will be age 16-18 at the beginning of the 2007-08 school term.

Possible themes: Concrete’s benefits to society; how concrete affects the environment; and using concrete to build homes, commercial buildings, bridges and roads. Essays should demonstrate a student’s awareness of concrete’s role as a building material in homes, commercial buildings, streets and highways, parking lots, etc.

Eugene McDermott Scholars Program

The Eugene McDermott Scholars Program is accepting applications for the Fall 2008 awards.

SAE Engineering Scholarship

(Applications available in the counseling center)

Award Amount: Scholarships range in value from $1000 - $10,000

Eligibility requirements - All applicants must:

- Be a high school senior at the date of application (Sept 1 – Dec 1)

- Intend to earn a degree in engineering or a related science

(examples of related science include: math, chemistry, physics,

biology, technologies, computer science)

- Be a citizen of the United States at the time of application

- Meet minimum requirements with regard to grade point average,

SAT 1 Reasoning Test and/or ACT as outlined in the individual

Requirements of each scholarship

Scholarship recipients will be notified by June 30, 2008.

Applications must be postmarked by December 1, 2007.

AXA Achievement Scholarship

This program offers the following awards:

- $10,000 national scholarships to 52 students

- $15,000 additional scholarships to 10 national recipients.

To qualify, you must demonstrate:

• Ambition and drive

• Determination to set and reach goals

• Respect for self, family and community

• Ability to succeed in college

Dobson Communications Corp/PRIDE Scholarship

Each year the Dobson Communications Corporation awards one hundred $2,500 scholarships to qualified college-bound graduating high school seniors. You could be one of this years recipients.

Qualifications are:

▪ Applicant or someone in the applicant’s immediate household must be a customer of Cellular One from Dobson Cellular Systems or a family member of a Dobson employee

▪ Minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale

Applications for the 2008 PRIDE Scholarships will be available on October 1. To qualify your application must be submitted electronically by December 15. Recipients will be notified by March 1, 2008

Gates Millennium Scholars Scholarship

Eligibility requirements:

• Must be African American, American/Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American

• A citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the US

• Have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale

• Will be enrolling for the first time at a US accredited college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking first year student in the fall 2008

• Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities

• Meet the federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria

• Have completed and submitted all three required forms (Nominee Personal Information form, Nominator form, and Recommender form) by the deadline

Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship

The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated boys and girls in the 2008 national competition. This scholarship is available to any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States. Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks. Applicants will be judged on financial need, leadership and scholarship.

Application deadline is January 11, 2009.

Junior League of San Angelo/Festival on the Concho

Applications are open to junior girls attending a high school in the Concho Valley. Ambassadors’ chosen will represent the Junior League during the 2008 Festival on the Concho scheduled for

June 13-15, 2008.

Based upon the application process and fulfillment of responsibilities before and during the Festival, Ambassadors will be eligible for a scholarship of $1,000 each toward the college of their choice.

Southern Methodist University - Hunt Leadership Scholarship

This scholarship is for full SMU tuition and fees, less the amount of resident tuition and fees at the leading public school of the student’s state of residency.

Eligibility Criteria:

- Demonstrated extraordinary leadership

- Submission of the Hunt Essay, and a completed first-year

application for admission to SMU.

- Rank in top 25% of graduating class.

- Composite SAT 1230 on Math and Critical Reading or ACT 28.

- Completion of a strong college preparatory curriculum, typically

including AP courses, IB courses, and honors classes.

In addition to your application to SMU, you must also submit one recommendation from a teacher or counselor, and the Hunt essay.

For the essay, you must respond to the following question:

“Based on your understanding of leadership, how would you use your leadership abilities as a member of a college community?”

ESA Foundation Scholarship

The ESA Foundation Board of Directors offers about 150 scholarships a year for deserving US and International students who meet the criteria of individual endowments.

Applicant must be a senior high school student who will be an incoming college freshman student with a minimum GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale, or a minimum score of ACT 22/SAT (verbal/critical, reading, and math) 1030.

A list of scholarships is available in the counseling center or may be downloaded from the ESA Foundation website esaf.

Robert G. Carr and Nona K. Carr Scholarship

This scholarship is for Angelo State University only. Scholarship amount ranges from $2000 to $6000 per academic year for full-time students.

Academic Criteria for selection and application are as follows:

➢ Rank in top 15 percent of graduating class

➢ Score a combined math and verbal score of 1140 on the SAT1

➢ Score a composite score of 25 or higher on the Enhanced ACT

Students may complete a Carr Academic Scholarship application online or information may be obtained by contacting the Carr Academic Scholarship office at ASU at (325)942-2246 or 800-933-6299.

Deadline to apply is February 1, 2008.

Carr Air Force ROTC Scholarship

Scholarships are awarded annually to highly qualified students who enroll at Angelo State University’s Air Force ROTC program. Awards are made on the basis of academic merit and extra-curricular activities. Because the Carr AFROTC scholarship is awarded from a private endowment, it carries NO military obligation.

Scholarships are awarded on an annual basis and are reviewed at the end of each semester. Applications are accepted year-round; but you are encouraged to submit your application by March 15 – this will enhance your chances of selection.

Carr Air Force ROTC Scholarships will be awarded without regard to other scholarships, which the recipient has received or might receive.

Scholarship awards are up to $1,500 per academic year.

Interested persons may complete an on-line Carr AFROTC Scholarship application or information may be obtained by contacting the Carr AFROTC Scholarship office at (325)942-2036.

State Farm Scholar Athlete Scholarship

State Farm will award 50 scholarships worth $1000 each. To be selected a student must:

• Actively participate in athletic competitions and sporting practices

• Maintain a 3.0 GPA (or equivalent)

• Be a graduate of the Class of 2008

• Display leadership and good citizenship on and off the field

Applicants must be nominated by a school counselor or school official. Please come by the CHS Counseling Center if you wish to be considered for this scholarship.

Deadline for nominations is 8:00 am on May 1, 2008.

Boys & Girls Club

The Boys and Girls Club has a Club Service Program. This program allows volunteers not only to get credit for public service but also to receive compensation sent to their academic institution. Participants that render up to 300 hours per year for up to two years will be credited with $2,362.50 to their school. This is the equivalent of 30 hours per week for 10 weeks of summer at 6 hours per day Monday to Friday.

Texas A&M Army ROTC Scholarship

Army ROTC provides hands-on Leadership development that builds discipline and confidence to ensure success in college and in life.

Texas A&M Army ROTC can provide financial support from the start.

At Texas A&M, an Army ROTC four year scholarship is worth in excess of $46,000, and there are 100 4-year scholarships available for next years incoming freshman class.

Texas United States Senate Youth Leadership Program

The Texas United States Senate Youth Program is for high school students who demonstrate leadership and an interest in government. Two Texas students will be selected. Students must be a junior or senior in High School. The William Randolph Hearst Foundation pays all expenses for the week-long Washington stay, including transportation, hotel accommodations, and meals. Each delegate is awarded a $5000 college scholarship for undergraduate studies by William Randolph Hearts Foundation.
