Country - MOH

IMPORTANT NOTES:

One of the criteria for Provisional and Conditional registration with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) is a ‘Primary Qualification' from one of the

following medical schools.

Only the medical programme from the listed medical schools at the time of addition to the Schedule is recognised. Any subsequent significant changes to the

medical curriculum of the listed medical school may not be recognised, e.g. GCE Advanced level or Baccalaureate level entry to a Graduate entry programme.

Only the campus that was in existence at the time of addition to the Schedule will be recognised. Any new campus that is off-site from the recognised main

campus, whether in the same country or a different country and whether the same degree is granted or not, will not be recognised by the SMC.

For twinning programmes, doctors must have undergone the entire duration of their clinical training and final examinations in a medical school listed in

the Schedule, before they can be considered for provisional or conditional registration in Singapore. Graduates from the Malaysian, US and Canadian medical

schools on the schedule must have undergone the entire medical training on the main campuses of the respective medical schools – i.e. both pre-clinical and

clinical for eligibility for registration with SMC.

Graduates from recognised medical schools listed in the Schedule must pass the relevant national licensing examinations in the listed country, e.g. in the

USA medical graduates must pass the USMLE and in Canada, they must pass the MCCQE to be registered to practise in Singapore. For any country that imposes

such national licensing conditions on its own medical graduates, the corresponding conditions will also be required for registration to practise in

Singapore.

Every application for medical registration will be considered based on its own merits.

The Singapore Medical Council (SMC) would like to highlight that International Medical Graduates who do not hold qualifications which are recognised by the

SMC, will not be eligible to apply for medical registration to practise in Singapore. This applies to all applicants.

SMC strongly advise all interested applicants to ensure that they fulfil all necessary criteria, including but not limited to, holding a qualification

which is listed on the Second Schedule of the Medical Registration Act (Cap 174) or a registrable postgraduate medical qualification recognised by the SMC.

Updated 18 April 2019

-----------------------

[1] For these two medical schools, the medical graduate must complete his medical studies in the main campus from Year 1 to final Year. Twinning programmes for these 2 universities which are done outside the main campus will not be recognised.

[2] SMC only recognises the “Arts” qualification of the 6-year undergraduate medical programme.

[3] SMC only recognises the direct 7-year Master of Medicine and 8-year Doctor of Medicine awarded by Chinese medical schools for medical registration. The two qualifications are primary (basic) medical qualifications and they differ from the postgraduate training programmes or qualifications that are awarded in conjunction to or after the (common) Bachelor of Medicine.
