We will only require an electronic class list of the pupils entering to enable us to process their work. On completion of an evaluation the pupils’ certificate can be downloaded. Here are a list of the documents you can access:2020 SEPESELA Step-by-Step Guide (this document)2020 SEPESELA Pupil Entry Form – required to be attached to each entry. The Letter 2020 – Details of what the judges are looking for in the letter2020 School Registration Form.xlsx (spreadsheet) - required to generate certificates*2020 Letter to Parents-Call for Engineers – we recommend identifying engineers from the school community here is a letter you can edit*There are 2 versions of this letter template – one for Scotland and the other for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Please email info@ should you require any further information.Step-by-StepParticipating in the Competition Requirements:Pupils should undertake some research on the engineer(s) being interviewed, the specific discipline (Mechanical, Civil, Aeronautical, etc.) and prepare some questions for the engineer based on their studies.Pupils must interview one or more engineer face-to-face or online to assist in their understanding of engineering principles and find out about the engineers’ career paths, jobs, etc.Pupils should then identify a problem, draw and annotate a solution to it.Pupils should write a letter which is up to one side of A4 explaining why their solution should be made.We do not wish to inhibit pupils’ imaginations, so the solutions to those perceived problems should not be limited by current processes, technologies or materials – children can, and should be, as inventive as they like. There are various methods to source a volunteer engineer for schools:You may already have an engineer assigned to your school as part of other Primary Engineer or Secondary Engineer programmes or other STEM activities.Send out a letter to parents/guardians to ask for support from engineers within the school family – there is a template for such a letter included with the resources.Primary Engineer will be organising a series of Live Online Engineer Events where pupils can watch an engineer’s presentation and ask them questions live over the internet. These events will begin in September 2019 through to Marh 2020 and registered schools will be notified of each event well in advance ro give them time to sign-up.If you are still unable to source an engineer, please get in touch with us at info@ and we will endeavour to source one or more for you via our numerous industry and/or engineering institutions contacts. Please Note: Each pupil must submit their own individual entry – we do not accept group entries by two or more pupils. This is an individual award. Each Pupil must draw an illustration of their invention and annotate it on a piece of paper no bigger than A3. In response to the question;“If you were an Engineer – what would you do?”Pupils must write a description of their invention in the form of an A4 letter. This letter should describe their invention, who it is aimed at and why it should be built. This is a valuable exercise for improving pupils’ literary skills, vocabulary and use of persuasive language. A guide to the letter can be found in ‘The Letter.pdf’ leaflet.Pupils (or teachers) must complete a Pupil Entry Form and attach it to the entry which includes the drawing and the letter – a template of this document (Pupil Entry Form.pdf) is included with the information link above. To ensure that pupils receive their certificates, teachers must complete a short online evaluation of their project and provide the Leaders Award with an electronic version of the ‘2020 School Registration Form’ spreadsheet document, as directed. This should be emailed to info@ when all pupils’ work has been completed, compiled and posted to the address, below. Please Note: Failure to supply the relevant ‘School Registration’ spreadsheet in electronic format will result in pupils not receiving their certificates as we will not be able to process their names and grades. Please Note: Teachers must download and utilise the most recent versions of the programme documentation as found in this document.Primary Engineer will endeavour to safely return entries only if accompanied by a stamped, addressed envelope (SAE), but take no responsibility for any lost entries. All entries will be acknowledged. All certificates will be in downloadable PDF format.Winners will be notified in or around May 2020 and invited to attend a presentation of awards from May 2020 onwards.Notification of pupils’ illustrations to be displayed at the exhibition will be confirmedas soon as possible.Postal Address for EntriesPrimary Engineer Programmes,The Leaders Award 2019 Programme, Floor 2, AMS Office Tower,Billington Road, Burnley,BB11 5UBTerms & ConditionsPrizes are non-exchangeable and non-transferable.The Leaders Award 2020 competition programme is owned and managed outright by Primary Engineer Programmes.Primary Engineer Programmes will have the right, with no further permission or payment, to publish all or part of any entry or use it in any way they see fit to promote careers and engineering.By entering the Leaders Award 2020 competition, each school agrees to secure parental agreement for entry and authorises the names of pupils to be made public. The names of the participating teachers and pupils may also be included in any information, publicity (including photographs and video footage) or promotional activity linked to the Leaders Award 2020 competition in any and all media. The decision of the judges is final and binding.Primary Engineer Programmes will not be responsible nor be liable for any circumstances beyond their control that prevents a pupil from attending the prize-giving event or prevents their work being displayed at the exhibition.Data accrued from the Leaders Award 2020 competition will be collated as part of an anonymised longitudinal study of pupil engagement in STEM.No individual or educational establishment will be identified as part of this longitudinal study and entry implies full and complete consent. As part of this contract it may be necessary to share information with the GDPR compliant funder of this project.
