BUTTERFLIES OF SKY MEADOWS STATE PARK
a checklist of all butterfly species seen in the park, with seasonal abundance
Sky Meadows State Park’s 1500+ acres offer a variety of habitats for wildlife. Thus, butterfly diversity at the park is high. Warm, sunny days with little wind provide the best conditions for butterfly watching. Close focusing binoculars and a good butterfly field guide are very helpful.
Status codes for the species below:
A = Abundant - Easy to see very large numbers of individuals in appropriate habitat and season.
C = Common - Usually easy to see good numbers of individuals in appropriate habitat and season.
U = Uncommon - Sometimes found in appropriate habitat and season, usually in low numbers.
O = Occasional - Found in appropriate habitat perhaps only a few times/season. Usually found in low numbers.
R = Rare - Small chance of being found, even in appropriate habitat at proper season. Few individuals. May not be present every year.
X = Extirpated. Formerly present, no longer occurs in park.
I = Irregular. Numbers are quite variable from year to year.
