Being a fellow in VIR was a pleasure and privilege. This program at the time led by Dr. Ziv Haskal, has a broad case mix and diverse pathology. I have had the opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of cases, that has included and is not limited to interventional oncology (chemo- and radioembolization; hepatic perfusion; radiofrequency; irreversible electroporation; and cryoablation of liver, bone, lung, pancreas, kidney, and other tumors), peripheral and renovascular disease, dialysis and central venous access, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts and complex portal hypertension, varicose veins/ambulatory venous hypertension, deep vein thrombosis, care of transplant patients, hepatobiliary and genitourinary disease, uterine fibroids, pelvic congestion syndrome, postoperative complications (e.g., abscess drainage), and trauma. The division also interprets vascular cross-sectional imaging (CT angiography and MR angiography/MR venography). An outpatient interventional clinic is open 5 days each week and fellows attend. I am the Quality Officer for Division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology since July 2016 and in this capacity I am responsible for maintaining and confirming that quality care is provided to all patients undergoing procedures in this division. One part of this role is to establish monthly Morbidity and Mortality conferences. I am the organizer of monthly M & M conferences in VIR and assign cases to be presented for discussion as well as educational presentations by the residents and fellows every month for the M & M conference. I have been doing this monthly since July 2016. I am a member of the CCC and PEC since 2016 and in that capacity I have been having regular, biannual meetings with the Program Director and other members of the committees to discuss, evaluate, critique and rectify the fellowship program, it’s goals and objectives. I have informal and biannual formal meetings with the fellows for their evaluations and their evaluation and critique of the program. I have also been deeply committed to and involved in curriculum development, training goals, responsibilities and evaluation of the fellowship program in IR and in its transition into independent and integrated IR/DR residency.
