While school is out, children should not play with children from other households, except for necessary childcare. When children play outside, they should stay 6 feet away from anyone not living with them. Help your children stay connected with others through phone calls or video chats.CLEAN HANDS OFTEN. Help your child wash their hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially if they have been outside your home.CLEAN AND DISINFECT SURFACES DAILY. Concentrate on things people touch like tables, chairs, doorknobs, light switches, remotes, toilets, and sinks.DO LAUNDRY REGULARLY. Use the warmest setting, and dry completely in the drier. HAVE THEM WEAR A MASK IN PUBLIC. The CDC now recommends people over the age of 2 wear a cloth over their nose and mouth when out in the community. The mask does not protect the wearer, but may prevent spread of the virus from them to others. Medical masks should be saved for healthcare workers, so have your children use a fabric mask or bandana. This recommendation is in addition to social distancing, washing hands, and cleaning.Create Handwashing HabitMake it funTeach children to wash their hands for 20 seconds after blowing their nose, coughing, sneezing, going to the bathroom, being outside your home, and before eating.Sing Happy Birthday two times or the ABC song. Or come up with a 20 second clip of your favorite song to sing together! Watch a fun youtube video about handwashing with your child.If your child’s hands are getting dry, red, or cracked from washing, try putting a thick lotion on after washing.
