Food Grade CO2 Suppliers and Producers

EPA is providing information on food grade CO2 suppliers and producers in the event that water utilities need to identify alternative companies, pursuant to Section 1442(a)(2) of the Safe Drinking Water Act1. EPA does not endorse companies or specific products, absent any statutory authority to do so, and recommends that utilities contact individual companies for additional information.

Food Grade CO2 Suppliers

There are relatively few CO2 suppliers, and they are listed below. Many of them operate in multiple states. Facilities that produce food grade CO2 often sell that CO2 to a supplier that can process (e.g., purify, compress) and deliver the CO2 to water utilities and other customers.

Food Grade CO2 Producers

The map on the following page provides information on facilities that produce food grade CO2 and utilities that utilize CO2. This map shows the location of CO2 producers relative to water utilities as proximity to a CO2 source can be a critical constraint given that long distance transport of high purity CO2 can be prohibitive in terms of expense and logistics. In addition, food grade CO2 producers are listed by state in the tables.
