This past month has been a busy one in PTA. A sincere Thank you to everyone that has been working so hard to make this a great year! Special kudos to:Cristina Hornik and all her help for the Book Fair this year. You did a fabulous job!Marie McLaughlin for the breakfast with a buddy in conjunction with the book fair. And for the Room Parent Coordinator work she has done. Christine Dockrill for the Box Top for Education fall contest and getting the school pictures under way! Her dedication to this school is awesome! Kelly Close for our first newsletter and Marcos Pizza night, Rebekah Thompson for taking the Health and Wellness Committee and Michelle Bauer for her continued dedication toward our technology. The work this girl does is amazing!!Without all of you – this PTA would not function and we would not be as good as we are. We are off to a great school year so far!Also, Communication is a top priority. Michelle Bauer has been working on the PTA Remind. This is to enhance communication between to parents about PTA activities and ways to volunteer which already is making a difference for our children. In November, we will have the Veteran’s Day celebration. Be sure to mark your calendars for our upcoming Marco’s nights: Thursday, November 17 and Thursday, December 15.2857536700Albion Elementary PTA Meeting MinutesFriday, October 21, 2016President Leesa Jacubenta called the meeting to order at 9:37 a.m. Members then said the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes – Leesa Jacubenta – Leesa asked if there were any changes or corrections to the minutes from the September meeting. There being none, the minutes stand approved as written. Treasurer’s Report – Laura Greiner – Balance on hand as of Sept. 30 is $14,797.25 which includes deposits of $929.02 and disbursements of $844.63 during the month. President’s Report – Leesa JacubentaLeesa extended thank yous to Cristina Hornik for her coordination of the Book Fair; to Marie McLaughlin for her work on Breakfast with a Buddy; to Christine Dockrill for the fall Box Tops for Education collection and contest; to Kelly Close for work on the first newsletter and Marco’s Pizza Night; to Rebekah Thompson for agreeing to serve as Health & Wellness committee chair yet again; and to Michelle Bauer for her continued dedication to our technology needs. Leesa expressed general thanks to everyone without whose support the PTA would not function. Order forms for the PTA School Spirit Fundraiser are on the back table. Orders for $25 Jazzy June Bug bracelets are due Nov. 1 and are expected in mid-November. Include the words “PTA Hours” in the subject line.Newsletter deadline is next Tuesday at 3 p.m.Principal’s Report – Mr. Vince Ketterer September-October has been busy with Eager Engineers, KidzArt and intramural sports starting. Math Club sign-up information will be coming soon.The renowned Madcap Puppet Troupe will visit Albion Nov. 3. The puppet performance promotes literacy.November 14 & 15 will be the ELA Air Test for 3rd graders, which they will retake at year-end. Watch for info. coming home.For Bond Issue 116, Albion will be producing a video where Mr. Ketterer will interview students asking what they think a new elementary building will look like and how they would design it. He circulated a release form which parents signed to allow their children to be included.Apologized for the numerous changes to the Halloween party schedule. All parties will be Monday, Oct. 31.Red Ribbon Week is coming up with the theme of “I Love My Drug-Free Selfie.” Spirit Days during that week were changed because of the Indians in the World Series. Fire Prevention Week was just completed.Mr. Ketterer encouraged all veterans and active military personnel to attend the Veterans Day program Nov. 11. He is looking into the purchase of a larger American flag as Marie McLaughlin suggested.Leesa announced that Sharon Bohland is now working full-time and unable to be onsite for the Veterans Day program. Carrie Deal agreed to head the committee with assistance from Marie McLaughlin.If you have questions on the STARS test reports that came home, please direct them to your child’s teacher. STARS tests will be repeated at both the middle and end of the school year. A long but thoughtful discussion of reading intervention and enrichment options ensued, including the role technology plays there. Mr. Ketterer encouraged parents to discuss this at parent-teacher conferences. Mr. Ketterer will send a reminder to teachers that water bottles are allowed year-round and is checking the precise date of the 4th Grade Music Concert with Mrs. Iafigliola. Michelle Bauer reminded everyone she is happy to post information on the PTA website but needs confirmation that it is approved by Leesa or Mr. Ketterer. Please forward an email with their approval along with the information to be included.Mr. Ketterer is in the process of assessing communication vehicles (Constant Contact, Facebook, etc.) to determine the best way to get different information out to families. Officer Reports1st VP – Membership/Technology (for Albion & PTA Council) – Michelle Bauer – 250 members have signed up to join PTA and paid. Six people have paid, but need to complete their information. Ten members still need to pay, so please complete as soon as possible. Tracy Orosco won the iPod Shuffle prize for the PTA membership drive. Michelle has created a Sign-Up Genius Account that includes emails of all PTA members who have opted in for information. 2nd VP-Ways & Means – Sara Hatfield – Continuing to get donations for baskets for the Feb. 19 Jump Yard Fundraiser. Sara is encouraging teacher attendance at the event as students love seeing their teachers there. Adult admission and admission for age 2 and under are free. If you have a business, please consider donating a basket. We expect lots of interest in the basket with CAVS season tickets. Mr. Ketterer explained the “Principal for a Day” raffle winner will be coordinated with “Principal for a Day” winners at Royalview and Valley Vista. A Marco’s Pizza Lunch with Mr. Wheeler also will be included. 3rd VP-Book Fair – Cristina Hornik – Cristina said Scholastic makes coordinating the Book Fair very easy and she has suggestions for the next Book Fair Chair. Cristina extended heartfelt thanks to many ladies who volunteered their time at the Book Fair, some of whom came to help every day. We collected more than $1,100 in coins for the All for Books program. Total sales were $16,885 (needs to be verified by Scholastic) which is slightly higher than last year. Cristina thanked Marie McLaughlin for the Breakfast with a Buddy coordination. Cristina also explained the new morning Grand Event and Family Night featuring the Fire Truck Pizza Company and Clifford the Big Red Dog. Mrs. Strazzo’s kindergarten class won the Popsicle party for the most donations for All for Books. 4th VP School Pictures & Yearbooks – Christine Dockrill – Leesa reported for Christine. Picture Retakes are 10/21. If you are a room parent, take photos! Instructions on how to complete your class candid page will be sent in January. Illustrations for a student-designed yearbook cover will be collected in November. Committee Reports Box Tops – Christine Dockrill – Leesa reported for Christine. More than 8,700 Box Tops were collected during the first turn-in. Lily from Mrs. Tarnowski’s class submitted 1,000 Box Tops. The drawing for a Target gift card was held during the Bear Huddle. Birthday Book Club – Sara Hatfield – Invitations have been sent to students with September and October birthdays. Marie McLaughlin took photos of participants which have been sent to Mr. Ketterer. Sara is planning ways for kids to receive more recognition for donations. Participating students also receive bookmarks. Invitations are sent for half-birthdays for students with summer birthdays. Conference Night Meal Coordinator – Tammy Fulmer – Tammy is looking for guidance for these two meals as there is no precedent. Mr. Ketterer said Mrs. Saki can notify teachers this will be happening. The group discussed meal choices and paper products already available. Tammy will create a Sign Up Genius for donations and asked parents to stay after the meeting to help plan. Council Delegate – Cathleen Finnecy – Cathleen reported on topics covered at the council meeting that included the upcoming bond issue (emphasizing website), Founders’ Night in April, the Reflections Art Program (going on now), the Health & Wellness Fair held 10/1, the upcoming high school Craft Fair on 11/19, the new flex schedule at the middle school, the Sunny D program and the 11/5 children’s resale event. Ann Gurin announced Stuff the Bus will be the same day as the Craft Fair.Decorating – Cathleen Finnecy – As Mrs. Sholtis requested, we are decorating the lobby/book nook. A pirate theme was used for the Book Fair. Cathleen will need volunteers to help with decorating going forward and requested a budget of $10 per month for nine months to pay for decorating materials. At future meetings, we will order the agenda based on when events are happening.Mr. Ketterer reminded everyone to pick up yard signs for the bond issue at Albion.OLD BUSINESSMichelle Bauer moved that we accept the budget as written. Carrie Deal seconded the motion. All members voted in support of the current budget; there was no opposition.NEW BUSINESSLeesa encouraged members to pick up a draft copy of the Social Media Policy which she proposes for approval at the next meeting.Brittney Price moved that we allocate $90 for decorating and Madeleine Michel seconded the motion. All members voted in support of the allocation. Leesa emphasized that this amount will need to be taken out of the General Fund. Marie McLaughlin asked how we will handle the budget for Breakfast with a Buddy since there will be more events this year. Leesa responded that we will raise the issue when the budget is low and discuss it at that time. Marie will be meeting with Mr. Ketterer soon to discuss additional Breakfast with a Buddy event dates so parents have plenty of advance notice to be able to take off work. Leesa encouraged members to discuss events, concerns they need help with at monthly meetings as Tammy did with the conference night meals. We are here to work together!Leesa shared a thank you poster from Mrs. Strazzo’s class and circulated other thank yous from teachers for the Welcome Back lunch.
