Work-based learning (WBL) coordinators help students explore careers through hands-on learning in fields that interest them. They help students learn and practice the employability skills needed to be postsecondary and career ready. Students may participate in a variety of valuable workplace-based experiences such as paid or unpaid internships, health science clinicals, and competitive employment. How do I get certified to be a WBL coordinator?WBL certification is offered for free by the department in the form of a two-day WBL certification training. This training is offered twice annually in the three grand divisions of the state, and registration is available here. Participants gain an understanding of WBL policies, child labor laws, and strategies for facilitating strong learning through work-based learning capstone courses. Please note: Some WBL courses require specific endorsements. Check your course standards for a list of required endorsements.How long does my WBL certificate last?WBL certificates are active for two years from the date they are issued. How can I access my certificate?WBL certificates are posted on our WBL Certification webpage and may be printed off at any time. How can I find out when I was last certified?Inquiries may be emailed to WBL.Training@. Please provide your legal name, teacher license number, and the month or year in which you think you were last certified. How do I renew my certificate?WBL coordinators may recertify by choosing one of the following options (see flow chart on page 2):attend the two-day WBL certification training to gain an introduction to strong WBL programs and become familiar with current policies and program requirements orearn six hours of WBL professional development through regional professional learning community (PLC) workshops and complete a Child Labor Laws module.Upon completion, an updated WBL certificate will be issued, which will be good for two years. If a teacher completes the required professional development prior to a certificate expiring, there will be no lapse in a teacher’s ability to oversee courses for credit. If a certificate is expired, teachers must recertify prior to overseeing workplace-based WBL experiences.
