2017 – 2018 School Year

Dear Parents,

The Third Grade Team would like to welcome you and your child. We are very excited and look forward to a wonderful year filled with meaningful experiences and rewarding academic success. It is very important that we work together to make sure that your child receives the best education possible.

In our classrooms, we will be engaged daily in lessons and activities that are aligned to the new Common Core Standards. The students will take State Exams in English Language Arts and Math. We will be assigning homework every night, including Fridays and school breaks. Remember, homework is a great way to establish routines, responsibilities, and reinforce our lessons of the day. We feel that parents play a vital role in their child’s education so we ask you to support us in motivating them to develop good work and study habits. If your child sees that you value their education, they will value it as well.

Our Behavior Policy is a simple one and includes some of the following rules. We expect that all children be respectful to others and to be honest at all times. The Third Grade Team will not tolerate stealing, cheating, or any inappropriate behavior.

We thank you in advance for your support. Of course we will always be available to speak with you regarding any questions you may have. You may call School 17 at 376-8345 to schedule an appointment.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

1. Attendance is very crucial to your child’s education. They can not learn or grow if they are not in school. Please make sure your child is at school daily, on time, and ready to learn.

2. Notes – All notes sent to school must be put in your child’s folder and any notes sent home will be placed in that folder as well. Please check your child’s folder EVERYDAY and have your child bring it to school every day.

3. Absent Notes – After your child is absent they are required to return to school with a note stating why they were out, signed by a parent/guardian.

4. Personal Belongings – Please put your child’s name on everything he or she brings to school. This will help prevent items from being misplaced.

5. Toys – ABSOLUTELY NO TOYS IN SCHOOL!! We will not be responsible for any lost or stolen items.

6. Parent Concern – The Third Grade Teachers feel that your participation is extremely important to your child’s education. You can call, write, or make an appointment to speak with us about any concerns you may have. We promise to get back to you as quickly as we can.

7. Gym – During the days that your child has gym, they are required to wear sneakers.

8. Medical – Please let us know of any medical conditions that your child might have, especially food allergies.

9. Celebrations – If for any reason you don’t want your child participating in certain celebrations please let us know. We also try to accommodate parents who wish to celebrate their child’s birthday in school. Please speak with us in advance in order to sort out the details.

10. Homework – It is crucial that your child do his/her HOMEWORK

DAILY.

If for any reason your child was unable to do the work, please send in a

note. If not, the missing work will be reflected in his/her homework

grade.

11. Bus – If your child takes the bus to and from school and for any reason

you decide you don’t want them going home on the bus that day, you

MUSTsend a note to school stating so. If we do not have a written

request from a parent/guardian, your child will be put on the bus.
