Instructions for looking up articles for next Tuesday

Click “library” on main CofC website

Click on the Articles Databases tab and then on “A”

Choose Academic Search Premier (the one at the very top)

If you are on campus it will go right to the search engine. If you are off campus it will ask you to log in with the first part of your Edisto email and your password.

Once in the search engine (it will say EbscoHost in the corner), pick “choose databases” and then select at least PsycInfo, which gives you access to primary resource articles from psychology journals. ERIC is good for stuff that is education/school psychology related and might have good articles on developmental disabilities.

Now you just start typing in search engine subject words – e.g., nutrition in children, aggression; school lunches, aggression, etc.

What you are looking for are articles relevant to your research topic that have links to the actual articles. These come in several forms:

1. attached PDF article (PDF full text)

2. attached HTML article (HTML full text)

3. Link to full text (these work in a variety of ways, sometimes straightforward, sometimes not)

4. Find it @ CofC. This will take you to the card catalog, where there are often links to online versions of the journal and you can pull the article up from there.

If there are no online versions of the article, you can order it through ILL, but for our purposes it would be best to move to the next article until you find one that you can download, print, read through, and then summarize in ½-1 page.

You’ll bring the article and the summary with you to class on Tuesday, 1/26.
