Jesus Heals Blind Eyes

Jesus Opens Blind Eyes

Jesus in the natural worked miracles, healings, signs and wonders which also pointed to spiritual realities He was addressing.

John 12:35–36 So Jesus said to them, “For a little while longer the Light is among you. Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. 36 “While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of Light.” These things Jesus spoke, and He went away and hid Himself from them.

John 12:46 “I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness (blindness).

Ephesians 3:14–19 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.

Ephesians 3:10 so that the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known through the church to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places.

Luke 7:21 At that very time He cured many people of diseases and afflictions and evil spirits; and He gave sight to many who were blind. (physical also blindness in the mind)

Revelation 3:15–18 ‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. 16 ‘So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. 17 ‘Because you say, “I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, 18 I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. (prosperity breeds nakedness, lack of holiness results in blindness lack of spiritual insight).

Matthew 16:3 “And in the morning, There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times?

1 Corinthians 2:12–13 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, 13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.

Three Blind Men Mentioned in Scripture That Jesus Healed

I. John 9:1-41 Man born blind … (we are all born spiritually blind)

Verse 1-3

His blindness is not caused by any sin of his or his parents but for the purpose that one day his sight might be given to him (40 years old) so that it might be a sign for everybody to remember AND God’s sovereign purposes might be accomplished.

Some things are not due to anyone’s fault but for the glory of God ….

It is more important to remove evil than to speculate as to it’s origin. I am not sure where this came from but I know where it is going!

Verse 4-7

The wording suggests that this is a creative miracle …. And it was.

Spiritually speaking …..

This is a picture of the miracle of the new birth, being born again enables you to see spiritually. Without God releasing revelation you cannot see spiritually.

Scribes and Pharisees claimed to be able to see when they could not ….

SO LOOK at verse 6

• Jesus takes clay … the basic building block of humanity… dust

• Jesus Spit … picture of the WORD … that which comes out of the mouth of God

• Jesus sent this man to the Pool of Siloam … means Sent One and the first thing he saw was Jesus

Washing in the Sent One

Cleansing yourself in the Sent One

Immersing yourself in the Sent One

Trying to get people saved by human persuasion is like trying to sell beautiful paintings in a blind school.

Need to pray that their eyes are opened instead of trying to convince their intellect.

We are dealing with spiritual blindness ….

• In us … concerning what God is doing

• in the lost … which keeps them from seeing Jesus’ beauty.

II. Mark 8:11-26 The blind man from Bethsaida

Verse 13-21

After feeding 4000 and getting in the boat to go to the other side of the lake … The disciples are fussing because they took no bread with them.

Jesus asks them “How is it that you cannot see?”

It is possible to be a Physical eye witness and still cannot see!

It is possible to be a disciple and not see and understand ….

Verse 22-26

The people in the town brought a blind man to Jesus …

Jesus took him outside the village …… outside his normal …

Took him away from the everyday routine of life ….

The Lord has taken us away from our “normal routine”

A picture of blindness to the greater purposes of God.

For us …. Jesus has taken us out of our normal ….

• Once outside of the normal routine … Jesus Spit on his eyes … picture of the WORD … that which comes out of the mouth of God

Verse 23

Mark 8:23 Taking the blind man by the hand, He brought him out of the village; and after spitting on his eyes and laying His hands on him, He asked him, “Do you see anything?”

This is the only place in scripture where there is not immediate healing.

Jesus asks can you see anything?

Can you see the greater purpose of God?

This man was honest enough to say, “No, I cannot see things clearly.”

Had this man said oh yes, I can see clearly. Then he probably would have walked the rest of his life with partial vision.

Partial understanding concerning the big picture, not knowing how you fit into the ministry of the Kingdom leaves you open to discouragement, and you are not as effective as you could be.

If you cannot clearly see what you are called to fits into the overall plan of God then be honest with Him and allow Him to touch you again. His honesty allowed Jesus to complete the process.

God is doing something new in His church.

When we cannot understand what God is doing the tendency is to run back “to my village” where we understand everything, where we are comfortable.

Our prayer should be … Lord help me be open to change …..

Lord help me to understand what You are doing.

III. Mark 10:46-52 Blind Bartimaeus from Jericho

Verse 46

Mark 10:46–47 Then they came to Jericho. And as He was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a large crowd, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the road. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Bartimaeus – the name means .. the unclean

There are hints to the cause of his blindness. The most common cause of blindness was syphilis. Sexually transmitted disease.

Verse 48

Many were telling Him be quiet!

You had your chance! Your blindness is the fruit of your sin …. There are consequences to your actions, and you shouldn’t expect anything else …. You are getting what you deserve.

Verse 51

Jesus says … what exactly do you want me to do for you?

Rabboni …. Lord (Master), I want to see again.

Restoration from his sin.

I want back in the game … I want to be useful to You again.

Wounded Generals, Sunday School Teachers, Elders, Intercessors, Servants, Workers, Greeters, Musicians, have been rejected by the church because of sin.

Their cry is …. Oh Lord, I want to be used again.

It is because of the Lord releasing Revelation to us that we know anything.

Jer 33:3 Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’

Call - to accost, to approach and speak to in an aggressive way

2 Kings 6:17 Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” And the LORD opened the servant’s eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Ps 119:18 Open my eyes, that I may behold .. Wonderful things from Your law.

Is 42:6-7 “I am the LORD, I have called you in righteousness, I will also hold you by the hand and watch over you, And I will appoint you as a covenant to the people, As a light to the nations, 7To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the dungeon And those who dwell in darkness from the prison.

Acts 26:15-18 And I (Saul / Paul) said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And the Lord said, ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. 16‘But get up and stand on your feet; for this purpose I have appeared to you, to appoint you a minister and a witness not only to the things which you have seen, but also to the things in which I will appear to you; 17rescuing you from the Jewish people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you, 18to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.’

2 Cor 4:3 3And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

2 Cor 4:6 6For God, who said, “Light, … shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
