The Youth Mobilizers were given the raw data, and the following is their analysis. AnalysisThe survey consisted of five questions intended to reflect middle school students’ interest in a future community garden. The first question, “Would you be interested in working in the garden helping plant, water, and harvest crops?” Almost half of the respondents said ‘yes’, with an equal amount responding ‘no’, and only about 15% saying ‘maybe’. Thus, if this is an accurate representation of students’ true interest in a community garden, there should be enough student interest to such a project successful. 29210077470The next question showed that only about ? of students had no gardening experience, another good sign for a future garden. 370205221615405765749935The third question asks “How many hours a week (approximately) would you like to spend at the garden?” 1/3 of respondents said that they would not work at all, which is a little less than the first question. The average respondent would work about an hour and half. The fourth question asked students to name specific plants that they would be interested in growing. There was a wide range of responses, but common answers included tomatoes, flowers, watermelon, fruits, strawberries, cucumbers, potatoes, corn, pumpkins, carrots, squash, chile, beans, and peas. Thus, students were more interested in growing vegetables than fruits, herbs, and ornamentals. Finally, students were asked if they could donate garden tools. Many said that they would have to ask their parents, but a little more than one fifth said that they would definitely be able to donate. 142875154305 ................
