|Under the general supervision of the Chief Engineer, the Stationary Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repairs of boilers, heaters, |

|pumps, valves, appurtenances, and lines used in the distribution of heating and cooling. Operates, repairs and maintains refrigerant compressors, condensers, |

|evaporators, traps, expansion valves and stop valves, together with all refrigerant lines and devices used to control temperatures. Must maintain current EPA |

|certification in order to service and/or dispose of HVAC refrigerant and/or equipment in accordance with the Clean Air Act of 1990. Maintains safety and order,|

|and supervises the conduct of persons committed to the Department of Corrections. Maintains security of working areas and work materials. Maintains safety and|

|order with Staff and Inmates. |

| |ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS |

|30% |Repair, maintain and inspect HVAC systems; Operate, maintain and repair heating and cooling systems, indirect boilers, water heaters |

| |and softeners, energy management systems, pumps, compressors, refrigeration systems, food preparation equipment, motors, controls and|

| |wiring; inspect and trouble shoot electrical equipment in good condition; keep records and prepare reports; maintain order, prevent |

| |escapes and injury to staff and inmates, or to property; maintain security of working areas and work materials; may supervise |

| |inmates, search inmates, inspect premises for contraband such as weapons, illegal drugs or tobacco. Perform other work related |

|one place longer than approximately 30 minutes. |

|Lifting: Occasionally – lifts materials and tool bags with varying weights; however the bags may be placed on a hand truck and pushed from one location to |

|another. Lifts tools, equipment, and materials to assist staff. These items can weigh from a few pounds each for hand tools, to 50lbs. |

|Carrying: Occasionally – Carries tools, materials, and equipment at times, heavier items may need to be moved from one location to another, typically, inmates |

|or additional staff is used to assist with these functions. |

|Bending/Stooping: Frequently – bends/stoops to perform duties, this is usually done on a routine basis. |

|Reaching in Front of Body: Frequently – reaches in front while performing duties. |

|Reaching Overhead: Occasionally – to work on equipment and perform various other tasks. |

|Climbing: Occasionally – utilizes ladders as needed. |

|Knowledge of: Boiler and auxiliary boiler room equipment; heating, lighting, ventilating, air conditioning, power, refrigeration, building electric and |

|pneumatic controls, water treatment and other mechanical or electrical equipment; the methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in the operation, |

|maintenance and repair of such equipment; Department's Affirmative Action Program objectives; a manager's role in the Affirmative Action Program and the |

|processes available to meet affirmative action objectives. Ability to: Follow oral and written directions; demonstrate mechanical ability; keep accurate |

|CONDUCT, ATTENDANCE AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS |

|Employees are required to be alert, cooperative, courteous, effective and professional in their dealings with inmates, parolees, fellow employees, potential |

|employees, visitors and members of the public. Every employee must be in possession of their employee identification card while on duty, and produce it upon |

|request. An employee must promptly report the loss of their ID to their supervisor immediately. Do not leave your ID at your desk. Carry it on your person at|

|all times. Every employee must be in possession of a whistle. Employees are expected to arrive to work on time and follow procedures for reporting absences. |

|Regular and consistent attendance is critical to the successful performance of this position due to the heavy workload and time-sensitive nature of the work. |

|Employee is expected to complete work assignments by the due date. Maintain a professional appearance. In service training as required. Infrequent travel may be|

|required to attend training. Comply with CDCR policies and procedures. The employee is required to work any shift and schedule in a variety of settings |

|throughout the institution; may be required to work overtime and may be asked to work in other locations as determined by the operational needs of the |

|institution. All employees are required to have an annual health review and repeat health reviews whenever necessary to ascertain that they are free from |

|symptoms indicating the presence of infection and are able to safely perform the essential job functions. |
