Families Helping Families Region 7 Services

Our community includes: Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, DeSoto, Natchitoches,

Red River, Sabine, and Webster parishes

Our mission is to provide information and referral, education and training and peer to

peer support to individuals with disabilities or special needs and their families.

Information and Referral

NWLAHSD Developmental Disabilities Support and Information Coordinator

Trained specialist that is funded by the Developmental Disabilities Division of Northwest Louisiana Human

Services District to assist families to find and receive appropriate services and support in their community.

Resource Lending Library

FHF has a large lending library with up to date information about all types of disabilities. The library is filled

with books, video tapes & DVD¡¯s on various topics relevant to individuals with disabilities and their families.

Education and Training

Louisiana Department of Education Contract

This program promotes collaboration between home, school and community through planned workshops

and one-on-one training and coaching. .Our Education Coordinators & Transition Specialist help parents and

family members learn to effectively work with the school system to facilitate a free appropriate public

education for students with special education needs.

LaCAN¨C La Council's Advocacy Network

LaCAN provides information and support to individuals wishing to effectively advocate for systems

change in the areas of home and community-based services, education, and employment. Regional LaCAN teams

include individuals with disabilities, their family members, and professionals. These members are notified by email

or phone when communication with state agency officials, legislators or the Governor is necessary.

Peer Support

EarlySteps Community Outreach Specialist

The program offers community awareness and parent support for the EarlySteps program. The specialist is

a parent of a child with a disability who is under the age of ten and can offer parent support as well as

information and referral.

P.O.P. - Power of the Parent Support Group

This support group is for parents and caregivers of individuals with disabilities. Parents and caregivers

are encouraged to come, share and learn with other parents and caregivers. The group meets every third Wednesday of

the month at the FHF center from 5:30pm - 6:30pm.

H.W.F. - Hanging With Friends

H.W.F. is a socialization group for self advocated 18 and over or self advocates out of the school system.

H.W.F. meets once a month to have fun, meet new people, and participate in community activities.

In addition to these programs, the following resources

are available at the FHF Resource Center:

Peer-to-Peer Support; Disability Resource Library (books, audio, and DVD); Speakers Bureau on topics related to disabilities;

Workshops, Conferences and Presentations on a variety of topics for individuals with disabilities, family members and

professionals; and a semi-annual Agency Newsletter.

? We provide food for those who qualify under the rules and regulations set by the Northwest

Louisiana Food Bank. We Are open on Mondays from 10AM to 2:00. On the fifth Monday

of a month we are open from 10 am to 12 noon.

Joe LeBlanc Food Pantry

? JLFP distributes food once a month to families below the poverty level in Webster Parish

with an intent t o connect them to a network of resources to help with underlying issues.

Noel Neighborhood Ministries Food Pantry

and Saturdays from 10 - 1.

to the needy who live in Bossier Parish. Each family may receive food once every 3 months.

Northwest Louisiana Food Bank

? Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana is a non-profit 501C3 organization. Their mission is to serve as

the primary resource for fighting hunger in Northwest Louisiana. Our programs consist of: Food and

Emergency Distribution, Disaster Relief, Senior Box Program, Mobile Pantry, Kids Cafe', BackPack

Program, Summer Food Service Program and K.I.D.S (Kids in Distressed Situations).

stranded transients and persons waiting to get into a homeless shelter.

Common Ground Community Center

? Thursday Nights: Clothing Room & Grocery Help ¨C 5:45 p.m.

After each Thursday meal, we open up the clothes closet where our friends can select clothes that

have been donated to Common Ground. We also pass out groceries to each family that attends our

meal. Our shelves in the food pantry are always in need of food. We welcome donations of food

(non-perishable and perishable), household goods, appliances, etc. Please contact Mr. Brian for

making arrangements to drop off donations.
