People often forget that what we drink can contain carbs, and making a smart low carb drink choice at your coffee shop could be the difference between 40g or just a few grams of carbs.
Whether it's a frappuccino, mocha, americano, latte, cappuccino, tea or hot chocolate, the list of coffees available is endless. Are you someone who goes for syrup, toppings, milk, sugar or marshmallows? In most cities, there is a Starbucks within every 100 metres, therefore it is no surprise that you might be left questioning what to choose when grabbing a coffee.
At zero carbs, the best option is filter coffee, with no milk or sugar. In comparison, the highest carb contender is a short signature hot chocolate with oat milk coming in at 38g of carbs. As you can see this is a huge difference. Syrups are always something to look out for, and ideally avoid, while your choice of milk can also increase the carbs. If you absolutely can't face missing out on syrup, opt for the sugar free version to minimise the carbs.
If you are choosing what milk to have in your coffee or tea, almond milk is the lowest carb option; oat milk comes in at the highest.
