Materials

? Lower-Case Alphabet Recognition Quick Check, select 1?10 (for student) ? Lower-Case Alphabet Recognition: Student Progress Chart (for teacher)

Administration Notes

? The Lower-Case Alphabet Recognition Quick Check is administered individually. ? Make sure the student touches the letters in the proper sequence and that the student does not get off track. ? Touch the letter yourself if the student skips a line or letter and needs redirection.

Instructions

1. Tell the student that you want him or her to tell you the name of the lower-case letters. 2. Say, "See these letters? Put your finger on each letter and name it. If you don't know the name of a letter, skip it

and go on to the next letter."

Scoring

1. Mark a slash through each incorrect response and write what the student said next to each incorrect response. 2. Count the number of letters the student identified correctly. 3. The maximum possible score is 26. 4. Write the date and record the student's score on the Lower-Case Alphabet Recognition: Student Progress Chart.

NOTE: Count self-corrections as correct answers. Reversals, such as saying b for d, are counted as incorrect.
