aging at least 80 points per game 10 times from 1971 to 1992; however, since then the

---Cajuns had scored better than 75 points per game just six times entering the 2013-14

campaign. But the last two RaginĄŻ Cajuns squads have ramped off the offense, scoring

81.0 points per game in 2013-14 (the highest since 1990-91 - 91.1 ppg.) and 77.5 points

per game last season to rank 16th nationally.

TEAMS PLAY FAST UNDER MARLIN: During Bob MarlinĄŻs 22-year tenure as a head

coach, that includes three trips to the NCAA Tournament, his teams have employed an

fast-paced style of basketball that has averaged 78.3 points per game during that span.

His teams have averaged over 70 points per game 21 of the 22 years.

GLASS CLEANERS: The 2014-15 RaginĄŻ Cajuns finished as the top-rebounding team

in the Sun Belt Conference with a +6.4 rebounding margin - also ranked 18th among all

Division I teams. Louisiana outrebounded its opponents in 29 of 36 games, including a

CALIFORNIA DREAMING: Following a summer trip to Spain prior to the 2013-14

season and a trip to Las Vegas in 2014-15, this yearĄŻs version of the RaginĄŻ Cajuns will

spend a week on the West Coast with games at UCLA (Dec. 15) and Pepperdine (Dec.

18.). The RaginĄŻ Cajuns will make their first-ever visit to historic Pauley Pavilion to face

the Bruins before concluding their week-long road trip against Pepperdine in Malibu.

KEEPING IT IN THE BAYOU STATE: The RaginĄŻ Cajuns roster is loaded with in-state

players, with 10 players coming from within the state of Louisiana. Six players - Hayward Register (Lafayette), Shawn Long (Morgan City), Johnathan Stove (Baton Rouge),

Tiremone Williams (Abbeville), Frank Bartley IV (Baton Rouge) and Jacob Broussard

(Lafayette) are from cities within an 1-hour drive from Lafayette with Steven Wronkoski

(Hammond), Bryce Washington (New Orleans) and Scott Plaisance (New Orleans)

within a 2-hour trek.

CLOSE WAS ENOUGH: After posting a 3-8 record in games decided by five points

or less in 2012-13, the RaginĄŻ Cajuns reversed course in 2013-14 en route to their first

20-win season in over a decade, going 7-3. The 2014-15 edition of the RaginĄŻ Cajuns

finished 4-4 in games decided by five points of less with three wins (Little Rock, Troy,

Sam Houston State) coming on the road.

TROPHY MARLIN: Head coach Bob Marlin enters his sixth season at the helm of the

RaginĄŻ Cajuns with the past two seasons equaling the most wins (45) since a period

from 1982-84 which saw then-USL post records of 22-10 (1982-83) and 23-10 (1983-84).

Under MarlinĄŻs guidance, the RaginĄŻ Cajuns have made three postseason appearances

in the past four years, including a berth in the 2014 NCAA Championships. He is 89-77

in his career at Louisiana and has taken two teams - Louisiana (2014) and Sam Houston

State (2003, 2010) to the NCAA Championships.

LONG REPEATS ON LIST: After being ranked as the Preseason

No. 79 player in the country by in 2014-15, senior Shawn Long moved

up on the list, coming in at No. 60. Matt Norlander of wrote the following on Long: Ą°Making his second straight appearance on our list. Long was No.

79 last season, and his 16.4-points and 10.2 rebounds per game while being The Guy

(remember, he previously played with now-in-the-NBA Elfrid Payton) only enhanced

our respect for his skill. Could play for any team in the country. -- MNĄ±

HOW WAS YOUR SUMMER, SHAWN LONG?: After announcing that he would be

bypassing the 2015 NBA Draft, Shawn Long went back to work in getting ready for

his final season in a RaginĄŻ Cajuns uniform. The three-year starter participated in the

NIKE Skills Camp in California before being named as one of only seven collegians to

play for the U.S. menĄŻs basketball team that claimed the bronze medal at the 2015 Pan

American Games. Long made his debut for the U.S. MenĄŻs Basketball Pan American

team on July 23 as he came off the bench to score five points with a rebound in a 102-70

rout of Puerto Rico.

100-POINT GAMES: The RaginĄŻ Cajuns enter the season having scored 100 points

in 130 games in its 103rd season of basketball. Four of those came in 2013-14 against

Northwestern State, South Alabama, Centenary and Louisiana College. In all, UL is 1273 in games in which it has scored 100 points, while the four 100-point games was the

most in a single season since the 1989-90 team had nine games over 100 points.

SHEPHERDĄŻS RETURN: Kasey Shepherd was having a solid sophomore campaign

in 2013-14 before it was cut short midway through the season due to a knee injury

against Western Kentucky, causing him to miss the final 15 games of the season. The

Houston, Texas native returned in 2014-15 as he played in all 36 games (with 11 starts)

and posted a career-best 9.7 points per game. Shepherd averaged 36 percent (53-for147) from behind the 3-point line in 2014-15, tying a single-game scoring mark with 22

points in a win over Oral Roberts.

FRESH FISH: Bob Marlin and his staff reeled in arguably his most heralded freshman

class of his tenure in 2014-15 with Johnathan Stove, Scott Plaisance and Bryce Washington. Stove and Washington each played in all 36 games for the RaginĄŻ Cajuns with a

combined 32 starts on the season. Washington was named the LSWA Co-Freshman of

the Year after averaging 6.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game for the year

PRESEASON ACCOLADES: Senior Shawn Long, who has averaged a double-double

throughout his entire career and was the only player in the SBC to rank in the top

five in both scoring and rebounding a year ago, was tabbed as the 2015-16 Preseason

Student-Athlete of the Year and first team choice. Teammates Jay Wright and Devonta

Walker join Long on the preseason All-SBC squad, both garnering third team accolades.

CAJUNS PICKED TO WIN SUN BELT CONFERENCE: The Sun Belt Conference released its preseason poll prior to the start of the season with the leagueĄŻs coaches picking the RaginĄŻ Cajuns to claim the regular-season title. Louisiana received nine of the 11

first-place votes and scored 119 points to finish ahead of defending champion Georgia

State. Louisiana will be in search of its first official league regular season title since the

1999-2000 season.

HOME SECURITY: In each of the past six seasons, the RaginĄŻ Cajuns have posted

double-digit win totals in the friendly confines of the Cajundome. During the 2014-15

season, the Cajuns posted a 12-4 record, one season after a posting a 13-2 mark - their

best win total in the Dome since going 13-4 in 1990-91. The 13 wins marked the third

time that has occurred (1989-90, 1990-91). The RaginĄŻ Cajuns record for single-season

wins in the Cajundome is 14, set in 1988-89. Louisiana is 282-114 overall in the Cajundome and 56-19 under head coach Bob Marlin.

SITTINĄŻ ON 20s: LouisianaĄŻs 22-14 record last season was the second straight 20-win

season for the program - marking the fifth time in school history the RaginĄŻ Cajuns

posted back-to-back 20-win seasons. The RaginĄŻ Cajuns 45 wins from 2013-15 equaled

the best two-year record since 1982-84 when Louisiana went 22-7 (1982-83) and 23-10

(1983-84) under head coach Bobby Paschal. Louisiana has officially procuced 23 seasons

with 20 or more victories, with a school-record 25 coming twice (1970-71 and 19992000).

CAJUNS IN MID-MAJOR TOP 25: Entering the season the RaginĄŻ Cajuns check in at

No. 12 in the initial Mid Major Top 25, sponsored by . The RaginĄŻ

Cajuns received 242 points in the poll, checking in between Yale and North Florida. No

other team from the Sun Belt Conference were ranked in the top 25 with one non-conference opponent - Pepperdine - checking in at No. 20.

LIVING ON THE LINE: Since records on free throw attempts were first kept in

1971-72, the RaginĄŻ Cajuns have posted two of the top three marks during the past two

seasons under Bob Marlin. The RaginĄŻ Cajuns went to the line a school-record 913 times

in 2013-14 before posting the second-best mark in 2014-15 with 848 attempts. Louisiana converted nearly 71 percent (70.6) of its free throws in 2014-15, the best mark in a

season since finishing with a 71.6 from the charity stripe in 1993-94.

FATHER-SON COMBO: For the first time in his career, RaginĄŻ Cajuns head coach

will have a very familiar face on the bench for the 2015-16 season - his son, Matt. Matt

Marlin joined the team as a walk-on this season and will have one year remaining after

completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas. The younger Marlin

played his high school ball at College Park (Texas) High School, including his senior

season in 2010-11 when his father was spending his first year in Lafayette. The Marlin

duo is the third current father/son-daughter combo for RaginĄŻ Cajuns athletics in 201415 joining head football coach Mark Hudspeth (son, Gunner - Fr., QB) and head softball

coach Michael Lotief (daughter, Chelsea - Fr., OF).

FROM BATON ROUGE TO PROVO TO LAFAYETTE: Junior Frank Bartley IV joins

the RaginĄŻ Cajuns after spending two seasons at BYU. Bartley, the son of former RaginĄŻ

Cajuns linebacker Frank Bartley (1974-78), transferred to UL during the summer of 2015

and will sit out the 2015-16 season to fulfill the NCAA Transfer Rule. Bartley will have

two years of eligibility remaining beginning in the 2016-17 season. He played in 67

games in his two year career in Provo after a prep career at Baton RougeĄŻs Christian Life

Academy, where he was the 2012 Class 1A State MVP.

THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARDS: Shawn Long has been a rebounding machine

during his first three seasons in a RaginĄŻ Cajuns uniform, averaging 10.3 rebounds per

game for his career. With 1,041 career rebounds, Long is 25 boards shy of becoming the

schoolĄŻs all-time leader. Last season, he joined Roy Ebron (1,064) and Marcus Stokes

(1,046) as the only players in RaginĄŻ Cajuns history to pull in 1,000 rebounds at Louisiana.

CAJUNS TURN IT ON BEFORE THE MADNESS: Since his arrival at UL, Bob Marlin

has led Louisiana to a 43-16 record in games played in the months of February and

March, including a 20-5 mark in the past two seasons. In 2013-14, the RaginĄŻ Cajuns

were 3-5 in Sun Belt Conference games at the end of January before winning six straight

games and 11 of their final 14 in reaching the NCAA Championships.

RAGINĄŻ CAJUNS LAND MARLIN FOR FIVE MORE YEARS: Louisiana RaginĄŻ

Cajuns head menĄŻs basketball coach Bob Marlin has signed a new five-year contract

that will see him remain at the University through March 31, 2020, Director of Athletics

Scott Farmer announced this summer. Marlin, who is 436-243 in 22 seasons as a head

coach, including an 88-77 mark at UL, has been the architect of a resurgence of the

RaginĄŻ Cajuns as he has led the team to three postseason appearances in the past four

years. With a combined total of 45 wins in the past two seasons, Marlin has helped the

RaginĄŻ Cajuns equal the win total set from 1982-84 and was capped by a Final Four appearance in the National Invitational Tournament.
