Full-time: LECTURER (ASSISTANT PROFESSOR) IN INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL LAW, HUMAN RIGHTS AND GLOBAL JUSTICE (THE HAGUE)

The Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies (Leiden Law School & Campus Den Haag) (‘the Centre’) is a leading academic institution in the field of international law, which is focused on high-level research, education and training in public international law and international justice. The Centre is part of the Faculty of Law of Leiden University, the oldest University in The Netherlands. It hosts several international research projects, leading scientific journals (e.g., Leiden Journal of International Law), a unique LL.M. (adv.) programme in Public International Law, the Telders International Law Moot Court Competition, as well as high-quality training courses, Summer Schools, lectures series, seminars and conferences.

The Centre invites applications for a position as Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in International Criminal Law, Human Rights and Global Justice (The Hague) (1,0 fte).

Responsibilities

• To develop and deliver core interdisciplinary courses in the curriculum of the Leiden University College (LUC) and its Major in Global Justice;

• To coordinate and lead teaching activities in cooperation with other lecturers and act as tutor for LUC students;

• To participate in the organization and lecturing of the LLM Programme in Public International Law, in particular in the course on International Criminal Law;

• To conduct high-level research and sustain a strong publication record;

• To develop and lead core activities of the Centre and to seek, obtain and manage research funding or other funding;

• To organise and coordinate specific events (conferences, lectures, Moot Courts), and to act as representative of the Centre when required;

• To assist in a collegial way in any other activities of the Centre.

Requirements

• PhD-degree (or in finalisation) and excellent track record in research as evidenced by publications in leading international journals;

• Demonstrated teaching experience in Public International Law, International Criminal Justice and Human Rights, supported by positive teaching evaluations;

• An interest in and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research;

• Individual initiative, leadership qualities and proven ability to obtain research funding;

• Excellent command of English; Non-Dutch speaking candidates should be prepared to acquire a good passive knowledge of the Dutch language;

• Dedication and commitment to the goals Centre;

• Appointment for one year initially, with the possibility of renewal (depending on performance and funds available);

• A salary scale, depending on qualifications and experience, on scale 11 or 12 of the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) of Dutch Universities upon a full-time appointment;
