EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE

The Vocational Nursing Program of Marian College is aimed at providing students with the basic knowledge, skills, attitudes and habits that will prepare them for employment in the health care field.

IAN COLL METHODOLOGY

The Program is conducted in a combination of lectures, readings, demonstrations, research and reporting, quizzes, examinations and clinical practice.

Theory and skills laboratory sessions are held in the campus. Clinical experiences are obtained from healthcare facilities approved by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.

1534 Total Clock Hours

Theory: 580 Hours Skills Lab and Clinicals: 954 Hours

55 Weeks: Weekdays (28 hours per week) 70 Weeks: Weekends (22 hours per week)

CLASS HOURS

Lecture: 8:00 a.m. ? 2:00 p.m. Clinical: 7:00 a.m. ? 3:00 p.m.

OFFICE HOURS

Monday ? Friday 7:30 a.m. ? 3:30 p.m.

Saturday 7:00 a.m. ? 3:00 p.m.

1 9 9 2 CREDIT GRANTING

Students who have completed academic courses and/or relevant knowledge and/or skills acquired from other accredited institutions will be given advanced standing in the Vocational Nursing Program.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission is open to all applicants who meet the entrance requirements regardless of age, sex, religion and ethnic background.

AN APPLICANT MUST

? be at least 17 years old; ? have completed high school or have a GED equivalent; ? have a valid social security number;

IAN COLL ? pass the entrance examination and interview given by the School;

? not have any physical or emotional impairment that could restrict performance in the clinical activities and hinder the attainment of objectives.

AWARD FOR COMPLETION

Upon successful completion of the Program, a Diploma will be granted.

The graduate will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN?). A passing score in the NCLEX-PN? grants eligibility to apply for vocational nurse licensing with the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT). A license is required to practice as an LVN in California.

The Administration, staff and faculty have years of education, training and experience in the areas of nursing, medical and healthcare, guidance and counseling, management, as well as school administration and operations.
