Lesson Plan Title: Final Group Presentations

Grade Level/Subject: 4th Grade Reading/Language Arts

Essential Question:

• Why does it matter what kind of energy we use today?

• What alternative resources are available?

Vocabulary Development: Energy, Renewable Resources, Nonrenewable Resources, Windmills, Hydroelectricity, Dams

Introduction/Engagement Activity:

Bell Ringer: What are fossils fuels and what other forms of energy are available?

Active Participation/Group Presentations:

• Break into groups to review the rubric for peer/self assessment

• Group 1 Presentation: Fossil Fuels in our Everyday Life

• Group 2 Presentation: Dams

• Group 3 Presentation: Windmills

• Group 4 Presentation: Hydroelectricity

• Students go to to participate in a vote and/or debate regarding the alternative resources available.

• Whole Group: Sing If We Don’t Fix It.

Evaluation:

Content knowledge, Presentation Skills (e.g. Listening, Speaking, and Viewing), and Active Participation are assessed.

Materials:

Intelliboard, computer, individual projects, document camera

Duration:

Approximately 60 minutes for four group presentations including peer and self assessments after each.
