Student’s Learning Goals for Competency III: I will explore the many forms of oppression and discrimination affecting the clients serviced by this organization. I will learn about the impact of governmental and political structures and impact on this organization and in general family services and support. I will engage in work groups within the community that are focused on improving family outcomes. I will remain aware of legislative components that impact funding for our organization and advocate when necessary.

Competency IV: ENGAGE IN PRACTICE-INFORMED RESEARCH AND RESEARCH-INFORMED PRACTICE

Student’s Learning Goals for Competency IV: I will orient myself to the organization database and agency ongoing monitoring plan. I will meet with supervisors of various departments to learn about their specific outcomes and tracking methods. I will become adept with the evidence based practices that are implemented within the agency, including attending relevant trainings offered. I will engage in research to explore best practices used in family services. I will plan and facilitate focus groups with clients. I will provide new research information to provide in grant writing as well.

Competency V: ENGAGE IN POLICY PRACTICE

Student’s Learning Goals for Competency V: I will identify, study, and apply policies that are relevant to my work within the agency as well as in the broader context of the community. I will explore how best to advocate for policy change that directly impacts my organization. I will learn ways in which current policies affect service delivery at the organization. I will participate in a community wide committee to gain more exposure to other organizations with similar missions and engage within their efforts at the community level. I’ll attend the Milwaukee Mental Health Task force meetings as well.
