Course content will be delivered by reading the textbook and watching online videos. Each week you will use a “weekly schedule” to keep you on task as you read the text book, watch instructor videos, and complete online homework. A (*) next to a video title in the weekly schedule means that the content in the video is not in the text book. Any content in the textbook that you will not be tested on is noted in the weekly schedules. It is your responsibility to check Avenue daily for class announcements (see the section “Communication” on page 4 of this document).Online Quizzes – Avenue: There are a total of six quizzes, beginning in Week 2 (see the schedule on page 6). Micro Quiz – Ch. 1, 2, 3Macro Quiz #1 – Ch. 4, 5Macro Quiz #2 – Ch. 6, 7Macro Quiz #3 – Ch. 8, 9Macro Quiz #4 – Ch. 10, 11Macro Quiz #5 – Ch. 12, course wrap-upThe micro quiz is worth 14% of your final grade. Of the five macro quizzes, your lowest quiz score is worth 10% of your final grade and the remaining four are each worth 14% of your final grade. The quiz will be time-limited. There are 20 questions and you will have 30 minutes to complete the quiz. Because you are taking the quiz on your own, we cannot invigilate the same way that we invigilate in-person tests. So you can use your notes and text book during the quiz. However, the short time frame means that you should prepare (study) ahead of time. You are expected to complete this quiz without the aid of other students. Quizzes will be held on Wednesdays and will be available from 3 pm until 8 pm EDT. The one exception to this is the micro quiz – since Canada Day falls on a Wednesday, the micro quiz will be held on Thursday, July 2. Please pay attention to the following guidelines for taking the quizzes.Use the latest version of either Chrome or Firefox.Close all other apps/programs/browser windows.Carefully read all instructions before beginning the quiz.? The 30 minutes does not begin until you click "start quiz".You will see one question at a?time and you cannot move back and forth between questions.? Once you have chosen your answer click "next question". Do *not* click "next question" more than once.? Clicking more than once may result in the pop-up getting stuck and impeding your ability to read future questions.? You will not be given any consideration should you make this mistake. When you have answered all questions, click "submit quiz".? You must submit the quiz in order for it to be graded.? Do *not* click "submit quiz" until you have answered all questions. In the rare event that you should experience a technical problem, exit the quiz and relaunch it.? The clock will continue to run.If you miss a quiz you must submit MSAF by the Friday of that week. The rewrite will be on the following day, Saturday, between 5 and 7 pm.MyLab Assignments:Online homework will be submitted using the publisher’s website. Access to this website is available with the purchase of the text book from the online Campus store. Do not purchase directly from the publisher’s website, or another website, as your access may not be guaranteed. The first two assignments are due on Tuesday, June 30, at 11:59 pm. One is a review of some basic math concepts called “MyLab Math Review,” the other is an introduction to the online platform called “How to Use MyLab”. Each of these assignments is worth 1%. If you miss either of these assignments, you may submit an MSAF and then email me (within one week) to schedule a new due date. There are 12 graded homework assignments, each associated with a chapter in the text book. Assignments are due on Tuesday nights at 11:59pm. Make sure that your computer is set to the correct time zone (Eastern Daylight Time) so that the due dates show up as 11:59pm. You will have more than one homework assignment due in most weeks. You have two “free passes” for missed homework assignments. You may use your free passes if you are ill, forget a due date, or have computer problems. You do not need a doctor’s note or need to contact anyone to use a free pass. Since there are a total of 12 assignments, this means that I will grade only your top 10 assignments (each assignment is worth 0.5% of your final grade). MSAF will not be accepted for the regular MyLab homework assignments. Please note that a free pass may *not* be used if you miss the math review or the “how-to” assignment – see the second bullet point above. You can only review assignments that you have opened. Even if you can’t complete an assignment, it is a good idea to open it and submit one answer. Then that assignment will be available for you to review as you prepare for quizzes.Participation:During Week 2 of the course you will be asked to introduce yourself to some peers via the discussion board on Avenue. During the remainder of the course you are expected to actively participate in online discussion forums. An assignment sheet which will outline instructions, submission details and guidelines will be provided. Each “Discussion Post Response Set” includes a “Personal Response” to a question, which will be due on Tuesdays and a “Peer Response” to the same question, which will be due on Thursdays. Failure to follow the naming conventions for discussion posts will result in a grade of zero for that post.Critical Reflections and Report:You will complete a brief questionnaire during weeks 3, 5, and 7, and then use those to write and submit a final critical reflection report of 400 to 500 words. The questionnaires will be available via Avenue quizzes. An assignment sheet for the report, which will outline instructions, submission details and guidelines will be provided. You must complete all three questionnaires in order to submit the Critical Reflection Report. MSAFThe McMaster Student Absence Reporting Form, MSAF is available. It may be used once per term to report an absence for pieces of work worth 24% or less of your total grade. You may use MSAF for any piece of term work *except* the MyLab homework (see the section about MyLab above).Submitting Assignments Electronically: Individual assignments submitted electronically must follow the naming conventions indicated in the assignment sheet.Always save a copy of your work?to your hard drive or print a hard copy of all assignments uploaded or sent through email. Save a copy of any important email that you send to your computer. Things have been known to get lost in cyberspace!Academic Integrity:You are responsible for complying with the University’s policy regarding academic integrity.
