Elective Class questionsIf you were in Spanish I this year, you need to sign up for Spanish II in 9th grade. You will not want to skip a year.Although difficult, it is not impossible to do band and a sport or cheer/dance and a sport. There will be UIL and competition conflicts that need to be approved by the sponsor or coach. If you do both of these all 4 years, it will be difficult to get all of the required classes for graduation in without going to summer school. There are some classes that require tryouts to be enrolled (AVID, Cheerleading, Dollies, etc…) and you CANNOT put this class on your choice sheet. What you can do is write a note at the top or bottom of the Course Selection Sheet that says something like “If I am accepted into AVID, please drop ______” or “If I make Cheerleading, drop PE”.Successful completion of ROTC will earn 1.0 Elective and 1.0 PE creditDriver Education courses are not offered during the school day, but are offered through community education at Madison High School. Year in Band will earn a student 1.0 Fine Arts Credit and 1.0 PE credit.Fine Arts classes1.0 credit of a Fine Arts class is required for graduation and it is recommended that students take this in 9th grade. SportsHigh School does not have an “Athletics” period as middle school did. Most of the sports that you play are in their own class period. Football has a class period, volleyball a class period, etc… You would sign up for football or volleyball, not athletics. You will register for the 1st sport in the season that you want to play. For example, if I want to play football and basketball, I am ONLY going to register for football. Once school starts and football is over, the coaches will switch my schedule for me if I need to be in the basketball class.A current Harris coach’s signature is required on the choice sheet for any sports as these are competitive teams. The Harris coach will simply sign their signature beside the sport you want to sign up for on the choice sheet.Boys Baseball (9th grade) does not have a class period.
