Whereas: Student Senate is elected by the Student Body to represent and voice the opinions of students; and
Whereas: Student Senate is a means by which student concerns are addressed; and
Whereas: Asian Students Association is an organization dedicated to promoting Asian culture on campus, supporting other student organizations, and actively participating in community service, campus, and multicultural events; and
Whereas: Asian Students Association was recognized by Student Activities as Student Organization of the Year in 2006; and
Whereas: Asian Students Association is organizing Asian Fest, an annual event scheduled for November 07 - November 08; and
Whereas: The event will consist of two parts: the Pandamonium and a banquet; and
Whereas: Asian Students Association is following the success of Asian Fest 2005, Asian Fest 2006, and Asian Fest 2007 in having an annual two day event. In 2007, Asian Students Association successfully put on Pandamonium, a culture show that showcases various aspects of Asian cultures and a banquet for our keynote speaker Tak Toyoshima; and
Whereas: Asian Students Association, last year, received an attendance of 300+ persons for Pandamonium; and
Whereas: This year, ASA hopes to attract an even greater number of students to its event; and
Whereas: On November 07, Pandamonium IV, a culture show, will showcase various student acts demonstrating the diversity of Asian and Asian American culture; and
Whereas: Asian Students Association encourages attendance from the entire student body and anticipates acts from multiple student associations; and
Whereas: On November 08, a banquet will feature the keynote speaker, Giles Li and award one scholarship; and
Whereas: Keynote speaker Giles Li will discuss the Sichuan Earthquake and it’s after effects; and
Whereas: Allocation will go towards promotion and production of Asian Fest 2008 and is necessary in order to ensure a successful event and attendance; and
Whereas: The budget for the 2008 Asian Fest is as follows:

Total Pandemonium Cost: $1937.50
Total Banquet Cost: $6012.00
Total two-day ASA Asian Fest Cost: $7949.50
Less Group Contribution: $7020.00
Allocation Requested: $929.50
Therefore: Be it resolved by the Baylor university student senate that: $( 929.50), or 11.7% of the total event cost, whichever is less, be allocated to Asian Students Association for the purpose of putting on JUST the Pandamonium culture show on November 7th, 2008.
Furthermore: The officers of ASA will meet with the Attorney General within 7 business days of the event with all receipts.
Furthermore: All extra money raised from Ticket Sales will be donated to the Sichuan Earthquake fund
Furthermore: Pandamonium will be FREE of charge and is open to all Baylor Students
Furthermore: The Department of Multicultural Activities has agreed to fund the speaker, Giles Li for the Banquet portion of Asian Fest
Furthermore: No money from the Limited Allocation Fund (LAF) will be used either in awarding any scholarship funding during the banquet or in the production of the banquet on November 8th.
Furthermore: No money from the LAF will be donated to the Sichuan Earthquake foundation or will it fund the t-shirts.
Furthermore: All decorations funded by the LAF will be returned to Student Activities for future use by other organizations
Furthermore: Any remaining allocated LAF money not used for the above stated purposes will be returned to the LAF in an expedient manner.
Furthermore: The SGAF will be recognized and given due credit in a visible manner throughout the event.
Furthermore: The members and officers of the Asian Student Association cordially invite the members of Student Government to attend the 2008 Asian Fest Pandamonium culture show and Banquet on November 7-8, 2008.
