Application Process to Magnet Schools and Lottery Information2014/2015Below you will find upcoming Key Dates and Steps to Follow to assist you and your student in the application process if you will be considering a Magnet School for next year.Key DatesJanuary, 2014 – Lottery Instruction Letters - all currently enrolled CMS students will receive a letter containing their home school assignment, student identification numbers and a pin number to be eligible for the first lottery—please keep thisJanuary 11, 2014 to February 11, 2014 – application period for the First Magnet LotteryJanuary 11, 2014 – CMS Magnet Fair at Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology 9am to 1pmSTEPS TO FOLLOWIf you are considering a Magnet High School Program for next year here are some things to consider before participating in the lottery:1. Become knowledgeable about the different Magnet School Programs Go to the CMS Website at cms.k12.nc.usClick on SCHOOLS tab at top of page—then Click on Magnet Programs from the drop down menu – this page will contain all the links to the information you will require to make an informed decision2. Discuss with your student their interests and match to a Magnet Program—the tabs on the left side of the screen Magnet Themes and Magnet Schools Guidebook will be very helpful3. Review Transportation Eligibility –consider if transportation will be available and consider if you will be able to provide transportation to and from shuttle stops if designated4. Pay particular attention to Entrance Requirements—Due to significant changes to North Carolina’s End of Year testing regulations and processes, CMS will revisit entrance criteria for special programs, where appropriate. Attend Open Houses at the schools you are interested in—see link Open House Dates 6. Attend CMS Magnet Fair at Phillip O. Berry – January 11, 20147.
