United States Geography TourINTRODUCTIONA group of foreign exchange students has been invited to spend a semester at Thornton Academy. The students will tour the United States by car before arriving in Saco, Maine. Since they will not have time to travel throughout the entire United States, they've decided to focus their tour on one region of the country. They've asked your class to help them decide which region to explore.TASKYou will explore one of the six regions of the United States: (1) New England, (2) the Mid-Atlantic states, (3) the South, (4) Southwest, (5) Midwest, and (6) West. While investigating your assigned region, you will use The Themes of Geography to identify and explain your findings. LOCATION – Location answers the question, “where is it?” PLACE – Studying place answers the question, “What is the “Place” like?”HUMAN-ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION – How does the natural environment influence human activities? How are humans altering the natural environment?MOVEMENT – Studying movement involves identifying and measuring the exchange of products, people, information, and ideas among places. REGION – How do these themes combine to make this area a distinct region? What makes it unique from other regions? In addition: Other items such as landmarks, monuments, and areas of interest will be included in your thinglink.
