THESAURUS EXERCISE

Below are some well-known sayings. Use the Thesaurus to change two words in each sentence, but not the meanings. (Review tab/ Thesaurus. Put your cursor over the word and then hit ALT & click on the word at the same time. A list of words will come up on the right. Change the word to the new word you want but it must have the same meaning.)

Example:

(original saying) To err is human, to forgive divine.

(change to) To mistake is mortal, to pardon celestial.

1. Only the old die young.

2. When reason fails force prevails.

3. People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.

4. Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country.

5. Birds of a feather flock together.

6. Old soldiers never die they just fade away.

7. Fools rush in where wise men fear to tread.

8. Make hay while the sun shines.

9. Ignorance is bliss.

10. He who hesitates is lost.

11. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.

12. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.

SPELL CHECK EXERCISE

Every word is spelled correctly, but proofreading would have fixed the errors. Read through and re-type this correctly. Save this document in your directory under word processing and print. Make sure it fits on one page.

It came with my pea sea;

It plainly marques four my revue

And weight four it to say

Weather eye am wrong oar write-

It shows me strait a weigh.

And eye can put the error rite

Its rare lea ever wrong.

I am shore your pleased two no

Its letter perfect awl the weigh,

My chequer tolled me sew.
