High School Scholarship Assistance Program

INTRODUCTION

These materials have been prepared for high school and adult students interested in attending a postsecondary education program who need financial assistance in order to achieve their educational goal.

The packet describes different types of financial assistance programs made available by the Northfield Rotary Club and provides information on who is eligible, how to apply and the level of funding that may be received.

Funds made available through these grant programs are raised by club members working on a variety of community projects designed specifically to generate funds for scholarships.

WHAT IS ROTARY INTERNATIONAL?

ROTARY is a worldwide organization with 32,000 clubs involving 1.2 million men and women, in over 200 countries and geographical areas. Club members are providing humanitarian service and building goodwill in the world.

ROTARY provides some $85 million for international scholarships, cultural exchanges, and humanitarian projects large and small that improve the quality of life for millions of people.

ROTARY is widely regarded as the world’s largest private provider of educational scholarships.

WHAT IS THE ROTARY CLUB IN NORTHFIELD?

NORTHFIELD ROTARY was chartered in 1927 with 17 charter members. Currently the club has over twenty men and women members representing a great variety of Northfield businesses and professionals dedicated to the ideals of Rotary International.

NORTHFIELD ROTARY meets every Wednesday evening at 6:00 pm at the Northfield Senior Center

in Northfield.

NORTHFIELD ROTARY has been a significant participant in providing direct services and financial support for local agencies such as scouting, the senior center, the Boys & Girls Club, the Fire Department and the recreational park. Every year club members beautify and enrich the community through projects such as tree plantings, landscaping, youth recreational facilities improvements and many other community projects.

NORTHFIELD ROTARY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS make significant contributions to the education of youth and adults. This booklet describes each program and the application process.

Northfield High School / Rotary Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to graduates of Northfield High School pursuing a two- or four-year degree program at an accredited college. Northfield High School students attending Randolph Technical Career Center are also eligible (page 5).

Northfield Rotary Careers Incentive Grants/Gifts

Cash award(s) or gifts relevant to the student’s career goals given to Northfield High School students attending the Randolph Technical Career Center who have been exceptional in demonstrating leadership skills, community service and proficiency in their career field (page 6).

Scholarship program descriptions and criteria for eligibility.

Northfield High School/Rotary Scholarship Program

(A one time grant in support of a postsecondary degree program for Northfield High School Students and Northfield students at the Randolph Technical Career Center (RTCC).)

1. Northfield High School students should contact their guidance department in March for an application which must be completed, mailed to the Northfield Rotary Club and postmarked no later than May 6, 2019.

2. Northfield High School students attending Randolph Technical Career Center should contact Northfield High School guidance department or the Randolph Technical Career Center guidance department for an application in March for a Northfield Rotary Club scholarship. The completed application should be mailed to the Randolph Technical Career Center by the deadline...

3. The level of financial assistance for each applicant will be determined by the financial need of the applicants and the level of funding annually made available by the Northfield Rotary Club.

4. The Northfield High School / Rotary Scholarship is only available to Northfield

High School seniors and Northfield High School seniors at the Randolph

TCC planning to attend their first year of college. The disbursements will be

made one week prior to the students leaving for college. The recipient must

submit a request for payment to the Treasurer of the Northfield Rotary Club.

NORTHFIELD ROTARY CAREERS INCENTIVE GRANTS/GIFTS

Annually the Northfield Rotary Club makes available to the Randolph Technical Career Center (RTCC) $500 in incentive grants or gifts such as professional work tools.

1. The amount of the individual case award(s)/gifts shall be determined by the

director of the Randolph Technical Career Center in consultation

with his staff and with the principal at Northfield High School.

2. Recipient(s) must reside in Northfield, and if no Northfield student qualifies, then a student in a community contiguous to Northfield (i.e., Roxbury, Williamstown, Moretown, Brookfield, Waitsfield, Warren and Berlin) will be eligible.

3. To be eligible, recipient(s) must demonstrate to an exceptional degree the

ideals of Rotary namely, high ethical standards, service to the community

and proficiency in a career field.

4. An eligible student may petition the director of RTCC for consideration by

submitting a letter describing how he or she meets the standards set in #3

above.

5. The director, at his or her discretion, may decide not to award an incentive

grant/gift in a particular school year if in his or her opinion there are no

qualified candidates. The director shall notify the scholarship committee of

the Northfield Rotary Club of his or her decision. The funds, in that

instance, will be carried over to the following year.
