How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? For our ancillary text, we were asked to produce and create a CD DigiPak. This included a CD front cover, back cover and the inside booklet. We were also asked to create a piece of promotion, which was a magazine advert page. Before starting these products, I researched into real media products that were currently in the market of my genre choice. From this I was able to plan what my products might look like. As I looked into real DigiPak’s and advertisements which were in the specific genre. CD COVER01905Throughout my research on CD Covers I came to the conclusion to design a simple but effective CD Cover. I believe this album cover works because the main focus is on the artist because she is not looking in the camera lense and its like you almost wish you could see what she really is looking at. Furthermore the colours pink, red, black and white are the four main colours I have been using throughout my whole project (including the costume in my music video) because in R&B music videos and Album covers they maintain a 3-4-colour convention. All the text is at the bottom 1/3 of the page. Most DigiPaks do this because they want their artist to be the main focus. CD BACK COVERThis is the back cover of my CD. I decided to keep it mature and simple and have one image just of my Artist at the back. I wanted it to be simple because as I have done my research into R&B DigiPaks, I have found out that many are just one picture of the artist at the back with the barcode and some text about the record label and the artist themselves. Her head is turning away and once again she is not smiling to show that maybe the album is about emotions and feelings. I wanted my artist to have her hand across her chest to convey that her heart is broken. Additionally I wanted my artist to have a white bed sheet around her brcause in some R&B music videos they do this, or they are semi naked. I kept this convention by having a white bed sheet around her to show that she is constantly at home. 331470060325-6858001225550This is a picture of Rihanna in a bed with a white linen sheet across her body. Also, she is looking away from the camera. CD MIDDLE PAGESI wanted my artist to have the colour white to convey that she is a pure innocent women. I wanted to keep the conventions of R&B within my DigiPak so I made sure my artist had long hair and makeup to keep this convention. Furthermore my artist is looking into the camera with not much facial expressions. This relates well with my music video because in the video my artist does not smile, as she is emotionally heat broken. I have the list of songs in the inside page of the CD where the actual CD will be placed. Whilst doing my research into DigiPaks I realised that many DigiPaks do this. I chose to do mine this way because its different and it contrasts with the picture on the other side to it because uts another simple picture of the artist. In conclusion, I do believe that my main product and ancillary text have combined well. Although they are not photos from the video shoot the body language and appearance and clothing of the artist within these photos does create a trend and shows a link between them all. Both my main product and the ancillary text do show a large amount of conventional links and signs of a real media product. The genre and the different types of people and audience it will attract can clearly be seen through the DigiPak. ................
