Making QFDE tabs

Author: Suzi Melotti

Date: September 27th, 2006

Required Equipment:

All of this equipment, apart from the anchorbond, can be found in the cryo-gun box, stored in the cabinet of the office part of the laboratory.

Circular aluminum pieces, with tabs on either side

Whatman filter paper

220 grit sandpaper

Single hole puncher

Anchorbond - Thick (AB THICKCA)

Procedure:

1. Use 220 grit sand paper to scuff surface of one side of silver tab; this is to help the anchorbond to stick.

2. Wipe off any remnant grit, and put a small amount of anchorbond in the center of the disc.

3. Use punch to punch out a piece of filter paper, and stick this in the center of the tab with the glue.

4. Squeeze between thumb and forefinger to ensure good attachment.

5. Allow to drive and check 1 in 10 of tabs made to make sure paper has stuck properly. This is important, as you do not want the tabs to become unstuck during the etching process; actually, you just don’t want to be anywhere near Jeff if the tabs become unstuck.
