Along with making connections and predicting, this is another strategy that good readers use to help them understand the story. In writing, we are working on making sure that we are using spaces between every word. We continue to work on stretching out words and writing all the sounds we hear. Goals: Write independently to convey personal ideas.Use approximate spelling to convey meaning, (kindergarten spelling).Add details to drawings to convey additional meaning.*Interactive Writing: The teacher and students write together to formulate a piece. The goalis for students to contribute to a group writing experience. Ex. Students will generatesentences about a scarecrow. The hat is black. His shirt is red.*Shared Writing: The students complete the predictable text with their own ideas. This allowsfor ownership. Ex. In fall, we see _________.*Independent Writing (structured): Ex. I like ____.*Journal Writing (unstructured): Ex. T is for _________. Ex. Draw and write about your best present.Focus: Letter formationSight WordsSpacing between wordsPunctuationBooks we have read:4635512573000 “Merry Christmas, Big Hungry Bear!” by Don and Audrey Throughout this story the main character, Little Mouse, responds to what the narrator says. Facts & InformationVolcanoes! They're so exciting. Any kindergartener will be instantly interested and motivated in studying this natural phenomenon.A volcano is a mountain that opens downward to a pool of molten rock below the surface of the earth. When pressure builds up, eruptions occur. Gases and rock shoot up through the opening and spill over or fill the air with lava fragments. Eruptions can cause lateral blasts, lava flows, hot ash flows, mudslides, avalanches, falling ash and floods. Volcano eruptions have been known to knock down entire forests. An erupting volcano can trigger tsunamis, flash floods, earthquakes, mudflows and rockfalls. Pocahontas was named Amonute at birth and went by the name Matoaka. She supposedly earned the nickname Pocahontas, which means “playful one,” because of her happy, inquisitive nature. Her 1614 marriage?to settler John Rolfe was the first marriage between a Native American and non-native in American puter with Mrs. Newger:Coding and Christmas activitiesSo what exactly does coding for 5 year olds look like? As it turns out, we all use coding concepts on a regular basis without even thinking about it! You would be surprised how almost anything you do in your daily life can be used as an example when explaining the concepts of computer programming to kids. Simple movements that we all use every day, like walking forward, making a left turn, making a right turn are the fundamentals of Kindergarten coding. Music Mrs. Wells has been having the children practice for the up-coming prayer service before Thanksgiving and the Christmas piece for the Christmas performance.Musical instruments are divided into four main families, which are percussion, strings, brass, and woodwind family. Each family has their own way to produce sounds. The children have been introduced to the wind and brass families. Wind instruments include the woodwinds, such as the flute, the clarinet, the oboe, and the bassoon. Wind instruments also include brass instruments, such as the trumpet, the horn, the trombone, and the tuba. The saxophone is considered a woodwind, but it may be made of brass.Religion: Please keep in mind that ADVENT is a time for "waiting," a time of "darkness, waiting for light..." "preparing our hearts for the birth of Jesus” It is not like the secular world - full of lights, Santa’s, Rudolph's and Snowmen, although this will be discussed, as well!12382510287000Advent season is a time of preparation for our hearts and minds for the anniversary of the Lord’s birth on Christmas. Celebrating Our Diversity355282551435We wish to celebrate our diversity by having family and friends come to present information about their culture and heritage. We would like to have one to two speakers a month who come in to share information about where they are from (if you are from outside the United States) or their heritage (e.g. Polish), as well as their culture (e.g. dress, food, activities, music, housing). The presentation, including snack, should be no more than 45 minutes. By celebrating what is special about all of the people in the world, we can learn to better appreciate one another. If you or another family member is available to come in to present to Kindergarten, please let us know so we can start scheduling these wonderful opportunities for learning. Important RemindersDressing In kindergarten, we are focusing on responsibility and independence. We ask that you send your child to school with coats and shoes that they can easily be put on by themselves or with minimal assistance. Also we ask that you send an extra set of clothing with your child to keep in their backpacks just in case it is needed. The weather outside is frightful, but the playground is so delightful! Please remember to dress your children for outside recess: coats that zip, hats and gloves, and stockings and shorts for the girls if they are in jumpers. Please pack a school sweater or sweatshirt, daily, for your child. The classroom is kept cool!? Please check book bags EVERYDAY!Please remember to label all belongings of your child; the lost and found has many items without names! Daily Prayers482917552514500Every day we say prayers in the morning and afternoon. The children are learning them and would benefit from reinforcement from home. Please continue to review the prayers with your children. Thank you for your help! Prayers can be found on the class website.Chuckles and Heart warmers-1619259525000One of the kiddos announced “My brother is a “bam-bam boy!” when we were discussing the “am” word family.040322500When Mrs. Wells asked if everyone was present, one of the children said that one of them was absent. Another asked, “What does that mean?” And another responded, “Home.
