Genesis 6:1-7: And it came to pass, when men [adam] began ...

GENESIS 6

I don’t think there’s any question that the “daughters of men” refer to humans. The Hebrew word used here for “men” is “adam.” Adam means ruddy or human. As we know from the Bible, God took man [adam] from the dust of the ground. The Hebrew word for “ground” is “adamah.” Notice that “adam” is in this word. (Genesis 2:7: “And the LORD God formed man [adam] of the dust of the ground [adamah], and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man [adam] became a living soul.”) As 1 Corinthians 15:47 says: “The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.”

Now that we know that Adam and his offspring were “adam,” let’s look at Genesis 6. Genesis 6:1-7: And it came to pass, when men [adam] began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men [adam] that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man [adam], for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men [adam], and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men [Hebrew: gibbowr] which were of old, men [Hebrew: enowsh] of renown. And GOD saw that the wickedness of man [adam] was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man [adam] on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man [adam] whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man [adam], and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

Let’s notice several things from these verses. First notice that man (or “adam”) is FLESH—in other words they are humans. Notice also that God said that HE created man. There was NO DNA tampering; there was no artificial creation, etc. God Himself had created man. When God decided to send the flood, he destroyed the humans whom He had created. He DID NOT send the flood to destroy the Nephilim or hybrids or fallen angels, etc. He sent the flood to destroy the humans (“man”) that were created by Him.

Another thing to notice is that when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man, they bare CHILDREN—not Nephilim, not hybrids. Note, too, that these children became “mighty MEN.” The Hebrew word here for “mighty men” is “gibbowr” (or “gibborim”). Tom Horn claims that the gibborim are the Nephilim or a “demon child,” but the Scripture (which NEEDS to be our final authority) says something ALTOGETHER DIFFERENT. Actually, the word “gibbowr” means champion, chief, strong man, valiant man, giant, warrior, or tyrant. In fact, the modern Hebrew meaning of this word is simply “Hero.” We find that the following people are referred to as “gibborim” in the Bible:

Jephthah, who became a judge of Israel

King David

Kish

Zadok

Joshua had 30,000 mighty men (and these were not giants)

Uriah

King Jehoshaphat, a righteous king, had 700,000 mighty men [gibborim] who waited on him.

There were 87,000 mighty men just from the tribe of Issachar

Numerous other people throughout the Scripture are referred to as mighty.

Even God is called “mighty” [Hebrew: gibbowr] on numerous occasions. Obviously, God was not a Nephilim, the offspring of the Nephilim or a demon or half-demon. (See the following verses that refer to God as “mighty”: Deuteronomy 10:17; Nehemiah 9:32; Psalm 24:8; Isaiah 9:6; Isaiah 10:21; Isaiah 42:13; Zephaniah 3:17, etc.). Look at Isaiah 9:6: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The MIGHTY [gibbowr] God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

How can the word “gibborim” possibly mean what Tom Horn claims it does? (You can check this out for yourself in Strong’s Concordance but we really don’t need the concordance as the context is quite clear.)

Notice also that these beings are referred as “MEN of renown.” The Hebrew word for “men” in this verse is “enowsh” and means “a mortal” according to Strong’s Concordance.
